Rolled credits on Q-UP after being obsessed with it all day. I'm not done playing, I want to do the other characters. I was truly impressed by how much it made me think about the build to break through the final wall. Also, without spoiling anything, there was something I enjoyed as a Baby Steps fan

Oh no, Q-UP is good. I'm susceptible to games where you make the number get big but I'm a bit more interested when there's more of a game around it, if it's just a clicker I'm a bit less invested. This somehow turns coin flipping into a deep build-crafting strategy game.

Lumines really is the only falling block game aside from Tetris I've ever put any serious time into so it getting the Tetris Effect treatment is honestly perfect. Very good so far!

Played a few more episodes of Dispatch today and continue to really love what they've done with it but also continue to be baffled why they are not letting this obviously bisexual main character follow his obviously bisexual dreams

This is the sort of thing I think of as the 'opportunity cost' of automation, and it holds not just for creative stuff but for everything. I've talked before about how a lot of my most appreciated work in support is when I am doing stuff that is beyond the scope of a bot searching a knowledgebase.
Interviewed an audio director recently who told me how an *iconic* character catchphrase came from the voice actor improvising in the booth.

Using AI voices robs you of the chance for spontaneous, funny, ad-libbed performances that could help define your game.
If your game has voice acting, then working with the voice actors is half of your writing process. It's not complete until you've heard it interpreted and reimagined by a voice actor. And they always reimagine it in ways that elevate the writing, in ways you never would have imagined yourself.

A comprehensive list of credits.

...I truly can't think of anything else that I'd say is true 100% of the time. Like, accessibility options - yes but depending on the type of game and what it needs that could mean wildly different things. A quit button? Sure, maybe.

I played the first two episodes of Dispatch and my first thought is I'm delighted, this is exactly the sort of thing that I hoped Telltale would eventually be capable of and it's great that it's doing so well. My second thought is that I would like this story to be 1000% gayer please

Here's a piece of game music I made that wasn't used in the end, but I'm fond of it. soundcloud.com/peter-silk-k...

I used to work for the BBC so I had occasion to closely examine the BBC's guidelines on balance as even back then (around 2007-2013) I had quite a few concerns.

The frustrating thing is, if you actually look at those guidelines, they're pretty nuanced and thought through

The thing is I have a soft spot for baseball and I'm a night owl so every so often I will be on this app at 4 am (a bit too late even for me) and some exciting thing will be going on and I think "oh I should start following it for real" then I remember all the exciting things are happening at 4am

For those that have been tracking my illness, today things seem to be changing to a new phase where, and I'm sorry but this is the only way to put it, all the fluid in me has given up and is fleeing for the nearest exit

Don't like when people put something on YouTube with 'rare' in the title. It's not, is it? It's on YouTube. I think if you do that you have to take it down once you hit 10k views. Then I'd go 'fair point not many people got to see that'

This opinion brought to you by I'm ill and can't get to sleep.

I played most of Silksong (I think I'm very close to the 'normal' ending), and enjoyed about 75% of what I played. But at some point I just... stopped and the idea of not playing it any more fills me with such immense peace that I think it's done.

I'm giving the Final Fantasy Tactics remake a go (I've played a tiny bit before, a long time ago so this is basically all new to me) and have some early thoughts:
October 28, 2025 at 12:40 PM
It does track with the thought I've had (and presumably others have) that they seem to operate in a similar way to dream logic. And yes, there's *something* interesting about that but I'm not sure it's a something that's worth completely redesigning society around
So if you visualize LLMs as not "artificial consciousness" but "an artificial connection to the collective unconscious":

1. They become philosophically way more interesting
2. It's way more forgivable they suck at math
3. It becomes extremely clear they are infinitely less useful to capitalism
A thing I am starting to embody in my extremely weird healing journey, and that a lot of AI people don’t seem to get, is that consciousness is *by far* the least interesting or impressive part of human intelligence

It would surprise me if the median payout isn't $0.
“Average musician makes $12 a month on Spotify. The fact that they are not even able to sell a record and it’s taken from them by rich motherfuckers on streaming platforms who get paid royally by record labels,Ticketmaster, merch companies. They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”
