Pluralism is a difficult thing for some people to understand.
“Bad Bunny’s performance isn’t just the story of the ascendancy of a single performer, or of one genre,” Noah Shachtman writes. “It’s the sign of something bigger still. America’s pop culture is today multilingual, polycultural and international at its very core.”
Opinion | The Culture War Is Over. Bad Bunny Won.
American pop culture is global pop culture, and vice versa.

Lots that is grotesque here, but I think the key thing to notice is the zero-sum worldview: if we take in a 5yo immigrant, this somehow displaces or harms at 5yo American kid. There's a finite pool of "American" to distribute.

A zero-sum worldview is the molten core of reactionary thinking.
Gonzales on Liam Ramos and his family: "They're not gonna qualify for asylum. So what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand that 5-year-old and it breaks my heart. I also think, what about that 5-year-old US citizen?"

People are going to have THOUGHTS about this.
The Springsteen biopic "Deliver Me from Nowhere" contains touching scenes of a father and son finding common ground after years of strained relations. It doesn't have to be just a Hollywood dream.

And I’m guessing — purely a guess — that it had never occurred to anyone to ask the Western Europeans about us prior to 2016 because, despite our foibles and our many ridiculous problems that are always at odds with their own cultures, they remembered things like the Cold War.

If anyone would like to talk about sports, culture, politics, and the post card that the Super Bowl sends to the world every year … that’s the subject of a class-long discussion on Tuesday.

You can buy an array of high-def antennae from $20 to $100 and then watch TV for free. Over the air. And you don’t have to deal with lag and multiple janky GUIs.

Sure, TiVo was the peak of the form, but just because your grandparents used an antenna doesn’t make it bad. Stop falling for marketing.
Fed up with increasing subscription prices, many Super Bowl viewers will be watching today's big game on a rogue streaming box.

Gates McFadden told a great story at a Star Trek convention I went to as a kid about Kermit goofing around with her props on a break between takes during her scene in “Muppets Take Manhattan” and finally she goes “KERMIT, STOP THAT!”, like straight to the frog, and the whole crew lost their shit
This is entirely correct / back in the day I was picked to ask Kermit a question at a Thing (all the questions were scripted but askers were allowed to embellish a little) and in the moment I was absolutely talking to Kermit, who is real.
the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style

There are places where capitalism and art don’t overlap. There are places where money and market share and the joy of creation and the relevation of discovery do not intersect.

Joy and discovery are the things people seek out.

That’s why the artists and makers have already won.

JVD just wanted to both sides this.

He’s in it for the long haul. This message doesn’t distance, it boldly highlights all of the things with which he remains comfortable.

Real condemnation would have been a lot more clear cut, but that’d have ramifications that aren’t that palatable for him.

When you try to Out Group people they might decide they are the In Group.

And you might make that Out Group, which is now the In Group, grow quite a bit.

Tajfel et al saw that people will make these choices over the most arbitrary reasons.

But give ‘em a reason? Good luck.
