I'm Kelsey Josephson, author of strange steampunk and reinvented fairy tales. Genre mashups and sympathetic monsters are two of my favorite things. When I'm not writing, I'm taking care of my sons and two rescue cats. I'm partial to videogames, crafting, movies, and reading. 💖⚙️📚

Today was not a great writing day, but somewhere between time on the treadmill, taking a nap, and a long bath, I figured out the core of the story to my secret project. I'm a little mad because my working title is definitely the name of a song* (and referenced in Jimi Hendrix lyrics). 🙃

🚨 New scam alert 🚨

Scammers are now impersonating representatives of Silent Book Club to target authors by pretending they've been nominated for a reader award. The screencapped email here was followed up by a request for a video, press materials... and a "submission fee."

It was a good writing day. I'm so glad to be back 💖
After a whirlwind of conventions last month, I'm back at my desk today. It's snowing (again.) Both cats are happy to watch the flakes from the warmth of my office. I'm listening to the Nat King Cole, Skyrim, and LotR albums on my record player while I return to revisions.

- "Are you the next [insert famous author here]?" (Overall an odd question, especially if the other author is living.)
- "Have I read anything of yours?" (Maybe? I'm an author, not psychic.)
- *unpublished man explaining my own genre to me while purchasing my book.* (That was certainly a choice.)
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

"Assume everyone I interact with online is struggling with their mental health" has only become a more important guiding principle in the past couple years
My personal guidelines for dealing with people on social media:

Assume everyone is a friend you haven't yet gotten to know.
Assume everyone is struggling with their mental health
Don't promise any emotional labor you might not be able to provide

Feeling this one today. (I'm okay. Just a little moody and reflecting this afternoon. This is normal for me, especially coming off a busy convention season and I have a little more time to think. My house will be full tomorrow 💖)
All of this. Tell people you love them. I lost too many loved ones who didn’t make it past their teens and twenties.

And yes, sometimes people just come and go in your life. It can hurt, but it's normal, especially as jobs and relationships change.
tell the people that you love that you love them, not just lovers and family, but your friends, too. often.

people die and disappear and things change and people grow apart and move. soak up all the love you can. be in the moment with people. gift them your time.
