New extortion scam email going round (this was received via a writer's website contact form). I've seen a number of these recently but without the money demand; the translation angle is also a new one

It's been an exciting week at SFWA. Site changes abound!

This is also why we're running our Winter Worlds of Giving campaign - to improve infrastructure. If you've donated: thank you. If you signal-boosted, thank you again.

Self-promotion doesn't always get easier in publishing. This nominations season--for the Nebulas, or any other award--PLEASE take pride in your work. Voters will ask about eligible works for their consideration, and we hope every SFF writer feels empowered to answer the call. Invest in your success!
Awards nominations are starting and I have things that are eligible but no pretty post (yet) cause I’m kind of overwhelmed and the imposter syndrome is impostering despite the fact that these pieces were literally already chosen for publication and wow aren’t brains the best!?

You can learn more about our industry peer on Planetside this Thursday.

Your gift to them is doubled up to $50,000, so while we hope you'll also support Winter Worlds of Giving at SFWA, we rise best when we rise together.

#WinterWorldsPrompt

Some roads grew lonely without company, so the Custodian tried to visit them all.

But the mountain path was such a gossip! The Custodian nodded politely when it cast aspersions on the riverside trail & the tunnel in the sky.

Best to keep out of forest politics, if one could.
Now begins the weekend in earnest! Who has writing goals? 👀 And are you braving yours alone, or in good company?

The SFWA Office will reopen December 1. We look forward to wrapping up this last month of 2025 in strength and solidarity with all of you.

The Custodian didn't think it spooky at all, the way writer-ghosts would gather in the dining room while all the other livings were off on holiday.

Could you even call it a haunting, when most simply pulled out invisible typewriters, as if meeting for one last Writing Date?🤔
Whether you're breaking bread with loved ones in this realm or another today, we hope the experience either fills your heart in just the right way, or... gives you great material for your next WIP. 🫠 No crumb of good storytelling left behind!

The Custodian didn't like the look of that tower. They'd seen beguiling staircases before, and this one seemed too good to be true.

So they sat at the base, trying to figure out where the trap had been set on the route.

And fell down the trap door sprung for those who wait.

The Custodian's face was itchy from where the Site Gremlin had scratched when ousted, but it was hard to stay mad now that the critter had been found pouting in the dark, high atop a mound of potatoes.

At least it wasn't plaguing webpages anymore.

It was a Cellar Gremlin now.
We're currently rehousing soot sprites at the closed SFWA Office (you wouldn't BELIEVE how many gather over the year, and how much they enjoy tea parties on Airship Nebula).

👀 What are you working on today, #WritingCommunity?
