Billionaires contribute between 0.5% and 3% of the UK government income

Meanwhile public sector workers contribute about 8-11%

Small business about 15%

Why is everyone rushing to protect the billionaires?

This genuinely appalling - a toxic legacy for future generations. But it is only half the story. How many licensed waste sites are also in breach of their licences? One in our district is facing a planning enquiry and an #EnvironmentAgency hearing over breaches.

The other issue is we include the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and Carbon Price Support in the wholesale electricity price, but there is no corresponding carbon tax on domestic gas consumption. Crazy that the carbon tax has the opposite incentive to domestic consumers that it is supposed to have!

Agree that adding pay per mile a few months after VED for EVs would be tough. Also agree that financial incentives to transition are needed, so petrol & diesel must remain noticeably more expensive than EVs.
Will pay-per-mile raise Reeves money or drive people away from electric vehicles?
Need for new road taxes is clear – but there are concerns that pricing plan could stall transition away from petrol

We did analysis for this project that showed the claims being made about the emissions from the U.S. gas that would feed this project were far far too low.

Another example of how US gas is being marketed as "low emissions" and "clean" despite the overwhelming evidence that it is not.
The plant, would make ethylene for plastics manufacture - likely to cause ammonia, ozone, nitrogen oxide + PM2.5 pollution - linked to increased cases of heart + breathing conditions - and carcinogenic VOCs - risking people's health says @clientearth.bsky.social

Thrilled to see that COP30 has shifted into open conflict between the petrostates and the circa 80 countries, including Germany and the majority of European states, who are demanding a mechanism for phasing out fossil fuels be included in the outcome.

Holy shit this is hopeful!!
