🌿 Protecting people and the #environment from harmful #hormone/#endocrine disrupting #chemicals (EDCs) and persistent chemicals like #PFAS at UK, #EU & international levels.
PFAS #pollution is everywhere in Europe - in water, soil, food, even our bodies.

But the #PFAS crisis didn’t come out of nowhere. Weak chemical controls under EU REACH allowed this to happen.

A system meant to protect us simply didn’t. Here's how it can be improved: buff.ly/8wg3nV2

‼️ @paneurope.bsky.social report shows widespread contamination of European cereal products with TFA. The main source of TFA is from the breakdown of other #PFAS used as pesticides or F-gases.

📣PAN calls for an immediate ban on PFAS pesticide use in the EU.

🌾 @paneurope.bsky.social’s new report finds widespread TFA contamination in European cereal products.

81.8% of the samples contained TFA, a PFAS chemical that is potentially toxic to the liver and reproductive system.

🥣 The highest levels were found in Irish breakfast cereal.

Lessons learnt from “forever chemicals” restriction highlight the need for REACH reform.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) pollution is pervasive across Europe. According to the Forever Pollution Project, almost 23,000 European sites are already polluted with PFAS, and a further ...

🚨 Testing from @anses-fr.bsky.social has found that #PFASpollution in tap water is ubiquitous across France and its overseas territories.

⚠️ TFA, a short-chain PFAS, was found in 92% of the samples, often at high concentrations.

🚨 New mapping by @theguardian.com, @watershed-i.bsky.social, and @investigate-europe.eu has revealed thousands of landfill sites across the UK that may be leaching toxic pollution.

🗑️ 22,000 UK sites predate pollution control regulations, such as linings to prevent leaching.
December 4, 2025 at 3:01 PM
Reposted by CHEM Trust
Because they were created before we had environmental rules, many older landfills have no lining, they don't have filtration systems for rainwater runoff, + there were no restrictions on what could go into them - think of lead acid batteries, old flypaper treated with arsenic, PFOA on old pans.
By compiling FOI data, government records and public sources, we located over 60,000 landfill and waste sites across Europe. Most were likely created before modern environmental regulations.
