I read a book on making money in ancient Athens recently (by Michael Leese, it's great), and the Greeks absolutely believed that the endless pursuit of wealth was a serious moral defect and personality issue no different than being a drunk or sexual deviant.
If you make a billion dollars — or $500 million or even $100 million dollars — and you keep trying to make more, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's a mental illness akin to hoarding or drug addiction.

Not telling Matt anything he doesn't know, but: the response to "threats in women's sports" is nearly identical to how fundies react to "threats of sexual abuse in church". They blame outsiders, demonize people from other ways of life, all while ignoring the real threats of abuse: men in leadership
whats so frustrating to me about the "women's sports" issue is that there are so many clear threats to women's sports participation, from K12 to college, that lawmakers transparently do not have a shit about. Somebody smart should try to reframe the conversation around what defending sports means!

When I saw this, it seemed like the kind of trashy one expects from D&D, but after starting to watch the Chinese "3 Body Problem" series, it seems it's actually tonally consistent with the source material.
