Yeah, this is the thing about it, isn't it. If you had some kind of advantage over the competition – why are you so invested in making sure everyone else has it?
I’ve been in game dev for 26 years and I can’t remember any other time where a specific tech was being insistently and persistently pushed on devs as a group in the public sphere.
Why would it? Cui bono? Why would any given dev have an interest in other devs using tech they don’t have a stake in?

My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore

I still can't believe they're trying to make a war happen out of thin air. Not just their abrogation of Congress's role in formally declaring a war -- that's been a slippery slope for decades -- but their total unwillingness even to go through the motions of drumming up public support.

I do think that there's some small contingent of people for whom the idea of cultural workers as a class is distasteful or even 'evil', who think that the only cultural goods that are authentic or valid or (dare I say it) Volkisch enough are ones made by amateurs in their spare time
