There was a scared girl in 2000 who read a book about a boy kissing his elbow and experiencing the joys of girlhood, and another about how boys play girls for Shakespeare plays until they fell apart. It took her another 20 years to come out.

It shouldn't take so long.
There was an unaware girl in ~1998 who grew up hanging out with her uncle, and watched him play Descent for hours against his best friend - until his best friend came out to him as a trans woman and he threw her out. It took the younger girl 25 more years to come out.

It shouldn't take so long.
There was a closeted girl in 1993 who went to her friend's house and played the board game "Pretty Pretty Princess", putting on costume jewelry. She ran home and bragged about how much fun it was, to indifference from her parents. It took her 32 more years to come out.

It shouldn't take so long.

Officials in Tennessee aren't just banning books, they're now demanding information on who checked out contested (largely LGBTQ+) books, including names, addresses, and "household composition."

A librarian who was given the directive has come forward asking for whistleblower protections.
Tennessee whistleblower says library board chair sought private data as part of state's book purge
A First Amendment expert told The Advocate that there are "huge" legal implications stemming from the situation.

One more word about the fines thing.

When my aunt was seven - SEVEN!!! - she lost a library book. She told the librarian who yelled at her until she cried and her son, a classmate of my aunt's, told her she would go to jail. She was terrified.

Then the fines came and her mom paid them...

Quote this with your most minor celebrity interaction

In undergrad, I volunteered to work a film festival and ended up as serving staff for Ian McKellen one night. I brought him crab cakes, he asked to get them warmed up.

Somewhere there's a very awkward picture of us together about 9 years pre-E

Ran face-to-face into Frankie Munoz boarding the plane home from my FFS. I saw a minor celeb. He saw a woman who looked like she'd lost a fight with a lawnmower. Neither of us knew what to do. We just stared at each other for a bit.

I have done some truly excellent librarianing today. If anyone needs me, I'll be under as many cats and blankets as I can find.

I still don't get why people pay attention to literary awards. The Nobel Prize for Literature. The Pulitzer Prize for fiction. The Man Booker Prize. Not one of these have ever honored a book with an illustrated cutaway that tells you what all the parts of a castle are.

Regarding The Essay:

If you have not yet figured out in Dec. 2025 that an appeal to a strict and fair adherence to the First Amendment is a rigged game, I would like to inspect your wallet for just a moment.

The Essay was a trap designed to do just this - fail and then gin up far-right grifting 1/

If you’re lucky enough to have a trans person at your table this week, some advice:

- Use their name! We picked our names because they’re what we wanted to be called, we love to hear them.
- Ask their pronouns and use them. I know you think defaulting to they/them is avoiding misgendering, but no.

My wokest opinion is that everyone should get a free name and gender change if they want it. Make it a bat mitzvah type thing. When you feel ready, you announce to the world your true name and gender. Everyone throws a big party and gives you $. Whether you’re making a change or not!
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

Fun fact, my makeup for Rocky Horror this year was an attempt at redoing the makeup I wore "as a joke" to Rocky in 2018. I've somehow gotten worse at eye shadow?
For any guys dressing up as women this Halloween “as a joke”, we’ll be here for you when you’re ready.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

It does feel like I only post on here when it's a timeline. But it's important to share the changes, not just physically but everything else too. It's hard to even say I'm the same person from before I felt comfortable enough to come out, but I get to be me because of the people who went before me.
