As I read them, the terms of the prompt rule out LANs, USENET, many chat rooms, and many email discussion lists. So… probably the bulletin board run by a guy at my library school, early 2000s. Avatars, sig lines, dopey HTML jokes, ASCII art, all that.
Okay, let's get nostalgic

What was the VERY FIRST online platform that you became addicted to posting on?????

Once wiped out in the wild, China’s milu (Pere David’s deer) has staged one of the world’s great wildlife recoveries. From just 39 animals reintroduced from British zoos in 1986, the herd at Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve is now 8,500. buff.ly/6JL2X2c #ShareGoodNewsToo
We studied 900+ endangered species across 20 years and this Chinese wetland's resurrection miracle changed everything we thought we knew about conservation

a lot of people traumatized themselves consuming a ton of horrific content over the years and they want to think that pain meant something or serves some greater purpose but it doesn’t and didn‘t. it just left you broken and shitty at performing your ostensible goal of liberation
reminder that the concept of "bear witness" as in "gotta watch all the bad videos yourself" is a goofy byproduct of the video age, and would be absolutely inscrutable to most people before like the 20th century

A book is not a fruit, it doesn't rot. It's meant to last a long time, to be found on a shelf somewhere, to be a surprise, a discovery or rediscovery.

For the sake of the presses & distributors, awards, critics, the ecosystem of culture, the birth matters, but it's only the beginning, not the end
