Self-verifying my bluesky account by posting brief awkwardly-worded, over-edited comments on other people's wit after everyone else has moved on.

It's really me folks
I have self-verified my Bluesky account by continually inserting typos into my posts.
(No way I’m giving up my @ alixabeth, which originated with, you guessed it, a typo.)
I have self-verified my Bluesky account by writing a lot of meandering posts that no impersonator would have the stamina to emulate.

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

The pearl clutching over this is hilarious, like, ah yes, in the year 2025 there is absolutely no way that anyone could watch both of these say one after the other? If they really wanted to?
The Guardian accused me of hubris because I dared post at 3pm.

The Calais Appeal donations are shooting up.

Maybe the King might like to donate too? Or maybe the Government could actually implement a fair & managed migration system?

A Christmas miracle!

Perhaps I shouldn't bother with writing papers. I'll just give ChatGPT my titles and journals wish-list
Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.
AI Is Inventing Academic Papers That Don't Exist -- And They're Being Cited in Real Journals
Academic articles from authors using large language model are creating an ecosystem of fake research that threatens human knowledge itself.

The Americans Who Saw All This Coming—but Were Ignored and Maligned
Call them the Cassandras: the people—mostly not white and male—who smelled the fascism all over Trump from jump street. Why were they “alarmists,” and how did “anti-alarmism” become cool?

neat_research_panel <- data.frame(
id = 1:100,
treatment = sample(c(TRUE, FALSE), 100, replace = TRUE),
outcome = rnorm(100, mean = 50, sd = 5)
)
Did you know that from tomorrow, Qualtrics is offering synthetic panels (AI-generated participants)?

Follow me down a rabbit hole I'm calling "doing science is tough and I'm so busy, can't we just make up participants?"

In yet more devastating news, the VC has confirmed her plans to cut 80% of academic staff from Essex Pathways, our foundation year department. This would effectively close down all our existing foundation year programmes through the back door.

But it's not a done deal yet. Please share urgently.
