It's great to meet all theses amazing new people. I thought I would introduce myself with a little thread. I’m a Green Party activist and a Patient safety manager in the NHS. I’m married and we have two miniature schnauzers! I’m here mostly to chat about politics.

On the fundamental issues of who pays for the crisis and the investment required to back British industry, the wrong decisions are being made.

Health workers, engineers, and tanker drivers will pay through stealth taxes, while city bankers and billionaires go largely unscathed.

@elliechowns.bsky.social outlines what the Green Party would have done differently at the Budget to cut bills by taxing wealth fairly.

“Labour said education would drive economic growth.

Yesterday we saw nothing for FE, and a dog’s dinner for HE.

With 15,000 HE jobs at risk and staff leaving FE, we don’t have the mechanisms needed to deliver growth.” @drjogrady.bsky.social yesterday.

Today’s budget simply doesn’t meet the scale of the challenges facing our country. You can’t build strong public services while proposing migration policies that drive out the people who deliver them. You can’t cut waiting lists without doctors, nurses, carers, & support staff who make the NHS run.

Oh well done. People have finally worked out what fiscal drag is, but let’s applaud lifting the 2-child cap and ignore every thing else that is making people poorer.

April 2022 Income Tax Threshold £12,570
April 2031 Income Tax Threshold £12,570

Should be about £16,970.

Meaning every person earning £16,970 or more is paying £1,231.86 more in tax.

Threshold freezes are a tax on the poorest.

Our conversation about immigration is framed entirely on Nigel Farage’s terms.
Labour has completely capitulated the ground to the far right, the racism & the hate.

We no longer have a conversation AT ALL about how we need immigration & when we cut it, we pay the price. #r4today

Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.

Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?

For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today

I'm looking at the comms coming from some Tarde Unions in response to the budget and it's obvious Trade Union members deserve better than this sycophantic cap dothing from the elected leaders.

Rachel Reeves says this Labour Governments decisions are "necessary."

Why is it always necessary to hit the living standards of the 99%?

When are we going to make the necessary decisions about extreme wealth?

Alongside many campaigners, the Green Party have absolutely dragged the Labour Government to finally end the child cap.

Labour politicians disgracefully defended it for far too long.

This shows why the Green Party membership rising and rising matters.

"a household earning just £13,000 would pay £261 more in tax each year thanks to the freeze; and the OBR says it will push 780,000 of the poorest people in the country into paying income tax."
"Tweaks to taxation and spending aren’t going to un-break Britain.

A tax on multi-million-pound properties, while welcome, is not going to erode the extraordinary wealth of those at the top of our society – nor their grip over our democracy."

Labour are going to be so embarrassed when they find out they suspended 7 of their own MPs for supporting Labour Party policy.
This has been a Labour policy since the Tories introduced it, so don’t go rushing to claim credit for it because the majority of the Labour backbenchers have been pushing this for a long time. Now they’re in government and in a position to remove it and they have done so.
