"They're not extermination camps!" "Nobody is talking about extermination!" --

"Nobody ever talks about it. They just do it. And you go on with your lives, ignoring the signs all around you. And then one day when the air is still and the night is fallen, they come for you."

Broadview's mayor keeps calling the protesters "out of towners." Every time we are there, we talk to people from the town on the front lines.

(Also this is a tiny town y'all, it's reasonable for someone in like...Brookfield or Melrose Park to feel like this is their community as well!)
Twenty-one people were arrested Friday morning during a protest outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing center in Broadview following a skirmish in which several police officers were injured.

“mass deportation” trauma from this era is going to be a scar that’s with us for a long time
“With immigration agents under intense pressure to deport thousands of people each day, Ms. Lopez was pushed through the system swiftly and was deported within four days of the factory raid.
As a result, Jorge is now cared for by two siblings who are barely adults themselves.”

More evidence that the “Project2029” is just neoliberal centrist bullshit
NEW: Before the recent Epstein disclosures, Larry Summers was poised to lead the economic policy plank for the Democrats' "Project 2029" effort at the Center for American Progress. He signed off on a housing policy paper CAP was prepping for next week.

Again it’s not good that the most prominent leaders of the party keep insisting it’s a trap to talk about “identity” when the Trump administration is pushing white supremacy.
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

My additional takeaway from this letter is that Jim Ryan, a personal friend from my days on the UVA Law faculty, is, by virtue of his moderate temperament and personal decency, unsuited to knife fights with people who have neither.
my takeaway from this letter is that glenn youngkin, rector sheridan and their flunkies on the board are deeply dishonest people who are engaged, with the trump administration, in a mob-style shakedown against the university of virginia
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

On DEI.

We get the beginning signs that the board is working closely with the governor in order to make changes aligning with EOs that do not have the force of law (so complicity, not compliance) and throwing up administrative hurdles to upper admin communicating with the public.

Imagine being one of these filthy fascist pigs, doing this, and thinking you are doing good. Who is protected by this?
at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

faith leaders and demonstrators tried to take beach street, which has been shut down to car traffic for weeks.

immediately, cook county sheriff’s police, state police, and broadview pd moved in to aggressively tackle clergy, drag protesters across the ground and arrest at least 3-4 people.

Trump has declared some foreign orgs a “antifa terrorist” organizations, basically outright admitting that his regime is fascist. I am a proud antifa supersoldier.
My NSPM-7 coverage has for weeks been met with smug assurances that there's no law for domestic terrorism. Well, the Trump admin just designated Antifa groups as Foreign Terror Orgs - for which there is a law:

Here in Broadview, outside Chicago, a large group of faith leaders & protesters have gathered this morning outside of ICE’s detention center.

This looks like one of the largest protests on Beach St. in weeks, where the city of Broadview is still enforcing a small “free speech” zone. It’s packed.

Again, Vance knows this is false. But he dresses it up in intellectual garb, and smooth brained people take it to be true.
