I used to get mad when people misused "decimated" to refer to things that weren't 1/10th destroyed, but I've given it some thought and now I've done a complete 360 on it

Let’s enjoy the last year of internet videos that we have.
Sora is not the real problem here. The real problem is that in 12, at most 24 months, there will be a Sora clone from Tencent or Alibaba that is just as good and can be run by anybody with a 5099, at which point everyone in society needs to rapidly agree to treat all digital video as fake, period.

Surprised the new World Cup ball isn’t a bigger story! Really think it’ll change up the game.

Love this setup screen in Helium browser, detailing the privacy differences between search engines. “Your personal data fuels its monopoly. Market-dominant due to anticompetitive and anti-consumer practices.” Obviously Google. "Subjectively overwhelming Ul” is funny, describing Bing.

Pleasantly surprised to find OmniWeb is still being worked on, in some form! It was so ahead of its time, and somehow still has some nice features most browsers lack, like visual tabs. omnistaging.omnigroup.com/omniweb/

This Apple event could have been an email. I guess just like any normal trillion dollar megacorp? #AppleEvent

The best emails I get from people I’ve never met are from @ryannorth.ca and @cabel.panic.com . Both send out what could cynically be called marketing emails, but which feel like entertainingly written blog posts of what they’ve been up to, what they think is cool and what’s coming up.

Designers make exactly the same mistake as the XKCD geologists: they think about their stakeholders as more junior designers. And when they were junior designers, they could tell that their work was bad and the work of pros was good.

But managers aren't designers *at all.* They can't tell it's bad.

Probably the best banana I’ve ever drawn. Mario Paint is surprisingly great! There’s a lot of playfulness to the interface that must have influenced the wonderful Game Boy Camera.

One dangerous effect of reading financial writing full of huge figures is becoming numb to real money, then going shopping and accidentally buying a banana for £30.

An article so long it almost needs an AI summary. But this is fascinating, and scarily believable. (there’s a good summary in this thread)
The entire AI bubble is a mirage - nobody is making a profit and everybody is losing money other than NVIDIA. As a result, NVIDIA is the weakpoint - the AI bubble is based on them selling MORE GPUS every single quarter FOR FOREVER.

Kinda mind bending how fast we’ve gone from „We‘ll be carbon neutral by…“ to „This thing will have the energy footprint of manhattan bro!“
Some absolutely insane numbers here.

Accept not being able to click the ‘total track length’ at the end of the progress bar to switch it to ‘track time remaining’.
That’s the Spotify or Tidal choice I guess.

I tried this on mobile first and thought it was cool… Now I’ve tried it on desktop and it’s amazing! Fully interactive examples of UI design over time
I wrote something new! It’s a UI design history essay about Mac’s Control Panel, and it uses emulation in some… maybe new and maybe interesting ways?
