Some changes to immigration rules today, not just increasing English language requirements, mean migrants looking to live and work in UK will have to meet far far higher standards than British nationals, while paying vast sums to be allowed to do so. That isn't a system based on "fairness". 1/

When our pooch was still with us, the local vet did a kind of subscription club thing. At the time, you paid monthly and it covered all vaccination costs and a bit more, but also gave you savings on everything else and *whopping* discounts off of eg teeth cleaning. That was fantastic.

I used to compare with dental, which is… spendy. But also, I remember getting drugs in Iceland on prescription, which were subsidised but varied. So I got some sudafed-style stuff for £1 or something, but antibiotics were eye-wateringly expensive. Easy to forget actual healthcare costs in the UK.

Good job this was only “[a] slightly simpliced”. Because if was “[a] very simpliced”, this AI slop would clearly have no value whatsoever!

(Also: good grief.)

Vast numbers of CDs, you say?
Loads of CDs on shelves.

That press release reads like half of its paragraphs have never been introduced to the other half.

I miss John’s writing. Without him, there’s no way I would have stuck with (and still be reading) 2000 AD.

That in itself is quite funny. He’s all “bollocks to this if these gits are gonna starve me”.

Given the copyright under it, this was created by an artist – one who says he has weekly FT credits. A curious direction for him to take because his portfolio page is really good.

That they’re now going to repeat this with anti-ECHR purity is quite something.

LCP is one of the best C64 titles ever written, an excellent early take on virtual pets, and a game I still think would work really nicely as a standalone smartphone app.

I wrote about it some years back for Stuff: www.stuff.tv/features/stu...

In many ways, for sure. But LCP was, I dunno, also more like a goldfish or a Tamagotchi. The Sims has a very different vibe for me, being closer in nature to a god sim. I really like the simple elegance of LCP and think it could have been (could still be) a really nice smartphone app.

How did you manage to kill it? Did they go to bed and die in the review copy? (I remember leaving my C64 on by mistake when going out for a party and my LCP was very green in bed, having run out of food and water. He wrote some pretty ratty letters after that.)

Interesting in another manner, in that everything Stephen says about Brexit also applies to the ECHR. So the Tories now look set to go for a second round of anti-EU purity. They’d be in even more trouble if the Libs weren’t so readily ignored by most media.

Just had a pitch for a product claiming to be an alternative to the flood of AI-gen slop. “Human-centric AI publishing.” Yet its main claim is that you can create a non-fiction book in an hour. FFS.

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

Always amazes me no-one’s really done anything with LCP since. It always struck me as a game that would have worked nicely on a phone, with the house at the top and the standard keyboard underneath. (A good month for Zzap! too. Paradroid is a rare C64 game I still play quite often.)

The final volume was published in May. If you count the Dredd collection as effectively part of the same run, that’s a decade of fortnightly books!
craiggrannell.bsky.social
Do you have all of the volumes now? I’m now using Book Tracker to mark what I’ve read. I’d things only went on the shelf after that, this place would be a mess. (Tonight, though, is more Starlord! Up to July 1978 now!)
