Two things can be true: A dictator no longer ruling Venezuela is good. And the leader of a representative democracy initiating unconstitutional military action to claim some oil and start a regime change war no one wanted without the legally required congressional approval, like a dictator, is bad.

Among the groups suspended: World Vision International (an evangelical Christian org), American Friends Service Committee (a Quaker org), Caritas Internationalis (Catholic, based at the Vatican) and the Near East Council of Churches.
Israel says it will suspend several humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, in 2026 for failing its new vetting rules for groups working in Gaza. Some international organizations have said that Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could endanger staff.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

How dare DHS call foul play while it uses taxpayer dollars to record propaganda videos?

It is legal to record. It's called accountability.

Note: while not unprecedented, it’s actually pretty rare for a sitting Catholic bishop to participate in a demonstration. It’s just not generally what Catholic bishops do.

Thus: Getting the hierarchy involved in this protest outside an ICE facility is no small thing.
Chicago Auxiliary Bishop José María Garcia-Maldonado at ICE detention facility: “Being here is an act of holiness…soon we will seek access to the facility to bring the Eucharist to our brothers and sisters; if they say no again, we will keep praying.”

Religion note: For years, conservative Christians — particularly evangelicals — heralded the cause of persecuted Christians, insisting the U.S. should aid them.

But since Trump was inaugurated, accepting (virtually) anyone fleeing *religious* persecution as a refugee has stopped altogether.
