Gonna double dip today,
When Elara meets Dr. Caulfield, it's at her first medical on Tartarus and the Doc doesn't really want another Toren. She liked Donnie (best friend/old pilot) and this newbie seems brash and Torenish. The kind of woman who is happier with nail beds covered in grease...🧵

The first ever time Elara met Toren was in dock above Miranda. She was coming aboard as a pilot, he was already the long standing engineer. Always imagined that he gave her some stick about being quiet compared to their old pilot Donnie who got promoted to Galaxy (new ship) 🧵

Great question. they usually have to appear a couple of times or have something plot relevant to do. Though I wouldn't say I have a hard rule on it. I have some named who never appear, some unnamed who appear twice. They have to impact the story in some way that means it's weirder not to name.

When do you consider a side character to have earned a name?
Is it when they speak a line of dialogue? Have a certain amount of importance to the story? When it is confusing to describe the scene otherwise?

So my peeps can only send messages in video or text form between light speed jumps, so the internet is kinda of useless to them unless they are planet side. News dumps happen when they leave FTL speeds but are more like corporate approved articles, like a digital newspaper - think yahoo in 2002.

So I've spent time writing today...wait no scratch that, I've spent all day debating how to move in a spaceship where one deck is exposed to vacuum and others aren't only to realise that a sensible person would just seal the breach and not waste hours inventing internal airlocks.

Well, almost exclusively spaceships and shuttles. Though there are motorised vehicles (cars etc) none appear in the story.
As for trouble, the ships are old and ill treated - shoestring budget for repairs. Spit and duct tape. Minor injuries are common cuts, abrasions, major injuries happen too.

I love your questions Charlie but my world is so bland 😂 Corporate colours are blue. Everyone in blue. Blue jumpsuits. Bog standard sci-fi crew wear 😄 Because they are on ship for the entire story, guess who didn't think about what Elaras favoured colour was... 😬 Probably not baby pink...or blue 😄

I love the tactile nature of reading a print book, especially a hard back with the extra heft but the simplicity of the ebook if you have long journeys etc is valuable to me too especially when lighting conditions may not be good the reader can compensate. Either good. Purist in me prefers paper.

I love the tactile nature of reading a print book, especially a hard back with the extra heft but the simplicity of the ebook if you have long journeys etc is valuable to me too especially when lighting conditions may not be good the reader can compensate. Either good. Purist in me prefers paper.
I tend to try to make heavy playlists for anything where I need someone to be aggressive in voice or action so I'll share one.
For softer scenes with heavy undertones, either "Under the Pink" - Tori Amos or "The Fragile" -NIN are often the backdrop.

I'd have to say James Patterson. I love the early Alex Cross novels and the deep dive into the horror of humanity with his villains. But I've nothing that depraved in any of my current work.
