This is a long shot, but anyone have a ticket to either the Bellevue or Federal Way showing of Shattered: Battle for Dream Island Again they’re willing to sell? Both are sold out (we found out about it late) and my 12yo is the kind of devastated where he’s heartbroken but trying not to show it.

Unpacking is such a satisfying game and the storyline is really lovely. Definitely worth taking a look.
If you're not a Steam person, it's available on mobile platforms too!
Cozy Quest is one of our favorite events on Steam each year—a great opportunity to find great games, both new and old. Unpacking is also 60% off if you haven't picked up a copy yet! #CozyQuest2025

This week's theme for #CrochetAway is goals, those projects you hope or plan to make someday.

One of mine is this Feather Wing Shawl from CraftyIntentions. It would be great to wear to Norwescon or a similar event. Maybe next year... or the year after that... 🧶

The school in question is an Infant School, which means kids ages 4 to 7, approximately.

...hey fellow parents, what's the success rate on telling your kids that age to NOT sing a particular song?
I'm sure this will go well. 🤣🤣

KIRO 7 ran an article and two TV pieces on the theft of a box truck full of arcade PCBs, artwork, and machines from my workplace yesterday. If anyone in the Seattle area sees someone offloading a ton of CPS2/NAOMI/Neo Geo PCBs, stuff of that nature, please reach out.

My MS Office Nerd Skillz are mostly Excel, but today I figured out how to add boilerplate text to numbered lists in Word.

Very useful if, for example, you’re a knit/crochet designer writing a 🧶pattern and it’s tedious AF manually typing “Row 1:” “Row 2:” “Row 3:” at the beginning of every line. 😎

ANYWAY if you'd like to read a fun, mid-century, country mansion mystery novel set during Thanksgiving, I literally have the book for you! You do not need to have read the first in the series to "get" it:

"On Wednesday, Wilson took a 1,976-vote lead over Bruce Harrell. With a maximum of 1,320 ballots remaining — though likely fewer — it is mathematically impossible for Harrell to catch up."

Local media is calling it: Katie Wilson will be the next mayor of Seattle.

Wilson ousts Mayor Bruce Harrell after running as a progressive challenger.

Her win is a west coast companion to Mamdani’s as a statement victory for the left.

It’s considered problematic now, but The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin really got me hooked on mysteries and puzzle solving.
I’d read Nancy Drew and similar books, but TWG made me feel like *I* was having the fun of solving the mystery, whereas Nancy et al was just reading about someone else solving.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Happy 3rd Publish-iversary to my first book, Viviana Valentine Gets Her Man! It has been a wild (and stressful) past three years. I didn't have as much time as I wanted to debut Viv to the world, but I'm glad there are people who love her as much as I do! www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/711852...

I subscribed to this labeler yesterday and it's been entertaining seeing which accounts are getting badged.
It tracks things like large # of unfollows, repeatedly posting the same link, minimal breaks between posts (news orgs, Jerry, etc.) and large # of posts in last 24 hours (traffic, Jerry, etc.)

I would not be the tiniest but surprised if on Monday, just in time for Election Day, Republicans announce that they've found some way to fund SNAP after all. 🤨

Oh and I'm supposed to be helping my kid assemble a Halloween costume and of course he's vanished into somewhere 😑

I got a pneumococcal booster shot yesterday and I'm tired & my arm still hurts, but at least I'm past the fever and chills stage (that was last night).

I have been messing with my website so much that I can no longer tell whether it's Pretty Good or just Cringe.

At this point there are two more static pages I need to add and I really don't love the theme and it'll be about a week before I can meet with someone to design a logo and and and and and.

Previously, driving by this billboard would make me irrationally angry. It's very refreshing to see the end of the whiny white dude phase.

I hope the tribe ends up either tearing down the billboard or at least removing the Uncle Sam figure.

Sometimes a platform's Algorithm is right on target. Today, after I'd finished the last book on my Libby shelf, the app suggested I might like Murder by Memory by @oliviawaite.com.

Yes indeed I might. Very much. Ended up buying my own copy to keep (and re-read) and pre-ordered the next one.
