BREAKING NEWS, GAMERS: I'm not doomed to replay LoveR just yet because I managed to get a multi-language Switch 2 and will now be covering a launch game y'all forgot about: Shine Post, Konami's well-reviewed idol management game. I wasn't expecting to play this for a while, so I'm legit jazzed. 😎

drawing up my game of the year list and I can consciously feel myself moving the goalposts away from "did I have a large quantity of fun with this largely unsurprising thing" towards "was this thing a wholesale shock to the system" and I am so sorry Death Stranding 2 but....

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 god bless @carolynmichelle.bsky.social for making sure Shadow Labyrinth remains on this list all year

Damn near fell off the couch when @oliemack.bsky.social & @dark1x.bsky.social pointed out in their Kirby Air Riders technology review video that the new Bandai Namco game engine is called SOL-AVES (Latin for Sun Bird)

“I wonder if Kirby Air riders lets you reset your checklist completion so you can spend another 120 hours playing the game with a series of rolling objectives prodding you in various directions” [it does PRECISELY that very thing]

Awhile back a friend was describing the mdoern parser game scene as "historical reenactment", and it's making me think about niche action genres too. I see a lot of devs making games in these genres trying to modulate their design so they're more accessible to modern audiences, which rarely works...

People who have heard about these kinds of games want to see them for what they are; trying to sand off pieces to appeal to "modern audiences" can actually alienate new players who wanted to try the games as-is, while not actually bringing in people who are otherwise turned off by them.

been thinking about how much talk about games compulsively veers towards reversion to the mean. Ninja Gaiden 4's camera "no longer fights the player" because it is now like every other game, unlike the first three, whose camera system is bespoke. God Hand, Kirby Air Ride, Penny's Big Breakaway, etc

TIL the name of this game is Sektori and not Sekitori like I thought bc I’m too sumo-pilled…
Sektori is one of the best games I’ve played all year. Design perfection, a fantastic soundtrack, it’s almost impossible for me to put down. I need every sicko reading this to play it. For @aftermath.site aftermath.site/sektori-shoo...
Sektori Is The Technically Perfect Heir To Geometry Wars

Basement Brothers is unequivocally the best resource on the English internet for information on games for the NEC PC series and every time a new video pops in my feed it brightens my day
Thanks to all our viewers for following us over the years. Perhaps this is not a huge milestone compared to other channels, but quite frankly we never thought our channel would ever make it this far! Hope that you will continue watching in 2026, and beyond!

Kirby is putting a lot of recently percolating thoughts into perspective. The main thing I want from a game is that I start in one place and after X hrs am thinking in an entirely different language or ruleset. That the depth of a game enables a multiplicity of approaches. Shadow Labyrinth did this
