English teacher. NBCT. Rutgers-Newark American Studies PhD; Douglass alum; Scarlet Knights. Author: TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR TEACHING EVALUATION. She/her. I have too many dogs.
Spent a good chunk of time today building a bridge to what might lie on the other side of teaching, and tonight I feel good about democracy to celebrate the sesquicentennial next year. I earned a whole PhD in American Studies for the spirit of ‘76. (Remember the red white & blue fire hydrants?)

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

And I spoke with a professor at Rutgers Marine Sciences who says they can put the windmills far enough offshore that they don’t block the view from the shore.

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Why am I still up at almost 1 a.m.? Because @blacktopkid.bsky.social wrote a book with so much tension I can’t keep reading and I can’t go to sleep. 79 pages in and I am so frustrated with Dante. And as always, there’s a woman doing all the emotional labor. I love Neveah. She deserves better.
