Australia’s Social Media Ban Was Pushed By Ad Agency Focused On Gambling Ads It Didn’t Want Banned
We’ve talked about the Australian social media ban that went into effect last week, how dumb it is, and why it’s already a mess. But late last week, some additional news broke that makes the whole thing even more grotesque: turns out the campaign pushing hardest for the ban was run by an ad agency that makes gambling ads.

I’m sorry, I know it’s supposed to be a very serious and good movie but I can’t read “Hamnet” without picturing a “Muppet Show” parody of “Dragnet” where all the characters are pigs.

Cursed Uniform Thread: 1996 Wayne Gretzky, Saint Louis Blues.

(Fun fact: It was Gretzky's turnover of the puck in the neutral zone that directly led to Steve Yzerman's 60-foot game-winner over Jon Casey's shoulder in Double Overtime of Game 7 of the 1996 Western Conference Semis.)

If you are near Philadelphia, have 123 dollars, and roughly 28 cubic feet of space to store 1,600 VHS tapes in reasonably climate controlled conditions until I can get up there, I will retrieve this collection of almost guaranteed vital archival value and digitize its entirety.

The problem with the "in the area" ruling is that it leads to horrible, cynical football from QBs and grounding should have an intent component.

The Pop-Tarts Bowl features the sacrifice of a beloved figure, who is reborn anew as someone who is ceremonially consumed in celebration.

This is literally the central narrative of the crucifixion, resurrection, and communion. How could ND say no?!!

“NFL RedZone…has increased the number of commercials during its broadcast. At the beginning of the season, the league said it would be airing only four 15-second ads throughout its telecast Week 1. But during Sunday’s Week 13 broadcast, RedZone aired 16 ads ranging from 15 to 20 seconds long”
So much for “commercial-free football.”

NFL RedZone, one of the most popular sports telecasts, has increased the number of commercials during its seven-hour broadcast.

good piece on Waymo's self driving cars

we can reasonably begin to look at self driving as a potential public health breakthrough, Waymo cars are much better and safer drivers than people

the problem is the economics of the technology not the technology itself
