I’m going to say this again. Our judicial system relies on the idea that EVERYONE is entitled to due process.

It doesn’t work if we ignore that.
As someone once pointed out, if non-citizens aren’t afforded due process, _nobody_ gets due process.

All they’ll need to do is claim you aren’t a valid citizen and suddenly you have no due process to argue against that claim.

And they can do it to _anyone_ for any reason.
A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

This.
If the things you require me to sacrifice "for the greater good" are my healthcare, my safety, my bodily autonomy and my right to exist as an equal human being in your society, then it's not the good at all, and your party can burn to the ground and the nation along with it.
But what’s more is… he’s fucking right! Two out of three of the last elections Dems, progressives, and indies have sat out because HRC/Kamala didn’t pass every one of their purity tests. That’s why we’re here. Because they all wanted fucking ponies and refused the “lesser of 2 evils”

The Detective Hole’s given name is Harry…

Apparently we’ve stopped running this stuff past 13 year olds before running with them. 🤦‍♀️
These fraught times call for a show with what is either an intentionally or unintentionally hilarious title, and which I will be talking about for the rest of the year

It’s time, once again, to repost this one. It is, unfortunately, evergreen these days.

ICE is working to deny due process to the people who act against them.

Their bosses are claiming they have immunity from prosecution, which strips due process from their victims, citizens & non-citizens alike.

THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR MEANS, YOU CRETINS! THERE IS A WHOLE PARABLE ABOUT WHO YOUR NEIGHBOR IS!
I’ve seen right wingers mock Minnesotans for helping people who will never know their names. They don’t seem to understand THAT’S WHAT’S NOBLE ABOUT IT. Helping someone without expecting anything in return: That’s what it means to be a good person.

The governmental gaslighting is on a whole new level with this regime. The rise of AI faked video doesn’t help. Their claims can be supported by altered data while they dismiss the truth as false. This is part of why they’re so unwilling to regulate it.
I think one of the things I find most disturbing about all of this is just how openly and blatantly the regime is lying about it.

See, here’s the thing… we wouldn’t be using those words if they followed the rules, followed their own claimed procedures, treated the people they “detain” with dignity, were transparent in their activities, didn’t hide behind masks, wore actual uniforms…

Those are choices with consequences.
Bovino: "When politicians, community leaders, & some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement calling law enforcement 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping,' that is a choice & there are actions & consequences."

it's also just virtually impossible to do double blind trials on stuff like hormones and blockers because the people who are not getting their meds are going to know pretty much immediately. they tried this with cis kids with precocious puberty and the placebo groups just dropped out.
some history around this: in the US, a lot of standards around double blind trials changed in the 1990's because of the advocacy of queer and trans AIDS activists who thought double blind trials for life saving medications were unethical. It's sad to see medicine reverting to harmful practices.
this is just actually evil. an indictment on the entirety of the uk's medical ethics. i wish i could say on this website what these researchers deserve

Been thinking a lot about how many of these anti-trans laws may become outdated within a decade or two as advances in biotech may allow trans women to obtain working ovaries grown from their own cells which by their definition mean that they are a "biological woman" and vice versa.

I miss the days of Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather and Connie Chung and Bob Schieffer and Katie Couric.

Non-protesting dad just trying to hustle his kids, as young as 6mo, out of the neighborhood. ICE threw a flash-bang INTO HIS car, all 6 kids in the hospital now.

If anyone wondered how things turn against occupying armies there's a case study playing out in front of you.

Yet another reason not to like the guy. Taxing billionaires is better for the state than not. Given this and his stance on trans rights, he’d better be running as GOP in the future, because this man is not a Democrat.
Governor Gavin Newsom speaks out against a proposed initiative to tax California billionaires: “This will be defeated — there’s no question in my mind... I’ll do what I have to do to protect the state."

The problem isn’t that we need to place more “restrictions” on ICE. we need to get rid of ICE. And barring that, actually enforce the limitations and consequences that are already in place. 🤦‍♀️
.@PabloReports: Would you vote for any funding increases for ICE?

Warren: Not without more restrictions. This is an agency that is out of control. If we don’t get some restrictions in place, they’re going to put more American citizens at risk.

There are reasons this is a war crime. Pentagon leaders have now told every possible enemy that American civilians are fare game to target. An enemy combatant can no longer distinguish an American combatant from an American civilian. This was a choice by our leaders to sacrifice every one of us.
Breaking NYT:

The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status.

That is a war crime called "perfidy."

Kamala Harris very likely would have been a disappointment, but I doubt she'd be Putin's partner in destroying the arms control regime we've built up over decades.
If allowed to lapse, there will be no international arms control agreement between the U.S. and Russia — putting a nuclear arms race back on the table.

Something kinda blunt I’d like to add to this. Because I’ve always preferred relationships solely with women, the WPATH SOC would not have identified me as a trans woman before the revisions in 2012.

I would not have been allowed to transition earlier.

I would not have been seen as valid earlier.
For those curious why so many trans GenX or older Millennials waited until later in life to come out, here is an excellent examination of the history of the tranmedicalism of the early Standards of Care. A system originally intended to gatekeep transition.
Transmedicalism is transphobic gatekeeping.
Here’s a link to it if anybody wants to read the horror for themselves

In decades to come I sincerely believe that this photo will be a reminder of protests in the same way as the photo of Jan Rose Kasmir from 1967.

It’s a shame how many people want to go back to the way things were and forget the lessons we’ve learned in 60 years.

Conservatives have so throughly dehumanized anyone not like them that they really are just out here cheering on the extrajudicial murder of an American citizen too. She’s just a queer liberal woman, all reasons she’s not really human, so of course she was fine for her to be murdered by the state.

They’d rather buy territory from another country than make sure US citizens are housed, or healthy, or fed.

There are things our country could do with the same quantities of money.

UBI, Medicare for all, housing subsidies.
Any and all of these programs would cost taxpayers less than this.
