This. Not only did the DEMS capitulate, they collaborated in their own complicity, giving strength to the lie that the Ds were responsible for the shutdown. It’s fucking outrageous.
Dems caving gave validity to the falsehood that the shutdown was their fault. The house, senate, courts, & presidency are all under Republican leadership.
Democrats took part in absolving the horrid practices of the GOP- starvation, job loss, tariffs, unsafe travel, healthcare destruction, & more.

Chuck found another collaborator to take Ossoff’s place. It was widely reported that Ossoff was prepared to vote yes if they needed his vote. Why? He needs that big DNC money if he has a hope in hell of getting re-elected in the mid-terms. He’ll do whatever the money tells him to do.
I’d like to point out that Senator Jon Ossoff, the most vulnerable Dem. senator, who is up for election next year, voted no. That is the sort of leadership, integrity & grit our country deserves. youtu.be/P3dsjriumYQ

“They’re getting a promise of a vote on ACA subsidies in the Senate, which will easily go down in defeat. Not to mention, Speaker Mike Johnson has said he’ll never even bring the matter up for a vote in the House.”

Senate Democrats just handed Trump a political life raft in the middle of a shutdown that was drowning the GOP. In return? A doomed vote on ACA subsidies and a pat on the back. This isn’t bipartisanship—it’s self-sabotage.

I woke up today sick to my stomach & angrier than I thought possible at my own party, to whom I have been loyal my entire voting life.
We can blame no one but ourselves for this unbelievable colossal fuck up.
And we need to fix it now. Starting w the resignation of Schumer as minority leader.

Hey, Chuck? Want to know why Trump has a loyal base? It’s not what all your polls say about the endemic disease of generational racism, mindless stupidity or propaganda on Fox News.
It’s because he fights for them. They feel heard.
You won’t even fight WITH us. Time to resign.

not because the voters want them to, not because the fed workers and SNAP recipients want them to they are caving because their DONORS want them to.

3 of the 10 are retiring. The other 7 need to be primaried and given the boot.
After last Tuesday, I cannot fathom this craven move. It makes me question more than their leadership. It makes me question their allegiance to the American people.

—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)

Every Vichy Dem needs to be primaried (3 are retiring). We had Trump in a corner. His only move left was to start negotiating on the ACA. By capitulating, they have betrayed every single American, not just Dems. ACA is dead. The GOP is laughing at us. Trump is ready for his victory lap.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

It’s unbelievable. They had him. They had Trump in a corner. He had nowhere to go. And they’re just going to let him go. He’s going walk out & take a victory lap while blaming the DEMS for everything, and the country will believe him. It’s complete insanity.

@schumer.senate.gov What are you going to do when the DEMS can’t take the House & Senate in the mid-terms bc the Trump regime has spent an entire year telling America you starved children?
Bc that’s exactly what they’re going to do. You’re walking into a trap. Do not fall for it.

Until today, Trump owned this shutdown. Now the DEMS just stepped forward and volunteered their entire party as tribute for it.

This is more than just caving. The DEMS think they’re winning votes by turning on the SNAP faucet, but they won’t get credit for it at the voting booth. The GOP will.

And in a year, they’ll all go bankrupt from the functional loss of the ACA. Pick your poison bc those are the choices this evil & cruel regime has left us with.
Ask yourself why the GOP doesn’t care about SNAP. Most of their supporters are the ones who use it.

It’s a huge mistake, a strategic error & will be disastrous for the DEMS in the mid-terms if they cave on the ACA.
If I were @schumer.senate.gov, I would not agree to help Republicans fund this regime on the "promise" of an ACA vote at a later date. It didn't work the last time when they promised to fund DC. It won't work this time either. The House won't touch it.

At events I always insist that I enjoy the daily act of writing, and I'm often met with skepticism. But an activity can be frustrating/challenging and still bring joy. In fact, that's part of it-- like playing a video game on a too-easy difficulty setting, a frictionless existence is not rewarding.
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.
