Theres a bit in flesh where the main character chooses not to address his physical trauma the correct way and instead to let it permanently damage him in what is a fairly obvious metaphor. Idk why everyone keeps talking about this book like its gonna call you gay for having a feeling or something??

I think this frontpage is an example of why Labour is facing the wrong way and fighting the last war. The new right isn't doing the old "legitimate concerns" thing that can be bargained with, reassured. Fundamentally the racism comes first and feeds the anti-immigrant stuff, not the other way round.
There is so much messed up about this front page Express story today.

There's no suggestion or evidence ANY alcohol or drugs was consumed. This is literally just people dancing.

And buried in the piece: "The footage is believed to have been filmed just before Labour took power in July last year."

This is right. Needless to say but the rules for the spousal visa are quite nasty and i dont think anyone should be subject to them, let alone the most desesperate people in the world
it's interesting how much of the proposed refugee changes are essentially lifted from the spouse visa route. minimum income requirement for family routes? spouse visas. 30 month renewals (where in practice you need to start getting everything ready 12 months in advance of application)? spouse visas
Shameful. At this section:

"Refugees will have their right to be joined by their spouse and children severely curtailed, with family reunification denied to anyone *not earning enough*"

I found the voice of Neil Kinnock echoing in my mind

A labour government.. a LABOUR government

the labour party is the british subconscious attempt to recreate catholicism as a political force
Once you've seen this you can't unsee it (ht @stephenkb.bsky.social). politicians trying to describe things as "is this Labour", "this is not Labour", "there is nothing Labour about this", "this has the mandate of Labour, it partakes of the Labour nature" as a substitute for good or bad.
November 19, 2025 at 11:45 AM
I mean probably
Did Labour MPs ever imagine that they would be ending the first period of their first government in more than 14 years with their own Home Secretary feeling the need to publicly deny that she plans to defect to Reform?

We're doing great on integration. Asylum seekers, minorities and immigrants hate this government as much as native-born white British people.

But my gut is: the problem with the government’s agenda is they are hitting the winners from economic liberalism on their most important thing (their livelihood and their businesses) and hitting the winners of social liberalism on their most important thing (their lives).

And convenience is I think the right bar, because IMV, everything that Starmer has been weak on since the election can be foreseen in the fact that Neil Coyle is still an MP.

Hello Keith this is your lawyer speaking. I am advising you today to please keep posting this shit
Btw about this from Lizza's reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b'days, 4 Xmases, 4 anniversaries). That's like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. And her apartment was a writing studio. And I made an f-ton then. What was I supposed to do? Get her a lot of Gift Certificates from Kmart?

She also pointed out that asylum seekers were “abusing our generosity” which is language straight from X, a formulation of words Katie Lam has also used. It’s very clear what brine Mahmood is pickling in.

Something I found interesting about Mahmood’s speech and question responses yesterday was that she genuinely seemed to believe the country was on the brink of proper civil unrest over migration. Many references to a broken social contract, justifiable anger on the streets of her constituency etc.

Obviously she’s using the frame of “we can’t accept this broken status quo” strategically, but if you were watching as, say, a conspiratorial TikToker, you wouldn’t have seen any attempt to talk down your worries.

This from @stephenkb.bsky.social cuts to the heart of the matter. Does the government not understand how toxic this argument is? Do they think they can somehow weaponise it? The last governments at least had the merit not of making this kind of foul claim.
November 18, 2025 at 10:04 AM
Mahmoods argument is that migrants and their families in britain are perpetual guests whose behaviour must be collectively flawless otherwise our white hosts will violently kick us out. Thats an anti integration argument!
