I recommend that people visit prisons to get a better sense of the issues that managers, staff, and incarcerated persons there face every day. The #CABudget principally funds schools and colleges, a social safety net (including Medi-Cal), roads, prisons, and state worker and retiree benefits.

Surging tax revenue from Silicon Valley’s big bet on artificial intelligence will produce greater-than-expected funding for schools and community colleges in California in the short run.

But how long will the AI investment boom last?
First look at 2026-27 state budget: Schools and community colleges are fine — for the moment
The Legislative Analyst's Office forecasts healthy one-time revenues in 2026-27, but a cooling of AI stocks and a structural state budget deficit signal worry.
