As the ongoing federal government shutdown disrupts critical food benefits, food banks across the state are available to assist Californians in need.

Last week, Governor Newsom fast-tracked $80 million to food banks throughout the state to help address cuts to food benefits.

Even though there are billions of dollars in contingency funds that could be used to fund SNAP, the Trump Administration is using the government shutdown to suspend food stamp benefits for the first time in the program’s history.

Due to the ongoing federal shutdown, CalFresh benefits that would have been available November 1st will be delayed. In SD 33, over 160,000 people receive CalFresh benefits.

Beneficiaries can continue using any unused CalFresh benefits on their EBT cards in November.
