The largest inflorescence in the plant kingdom is flowering now in the middle of Rio de Janeiro.
It's 25-feet tall and composed of millions of flowers. Crowning the talipot palm, Corypha umbraculifera, its emergence marks the end of the life of the tree.

Make America jaundiced again.
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

It's become normal now for high-level political figures to argue that an entire generation was brainwashed through fake videos into mass anti-Israel political mobilization by TikTok. Complete conspiracy thinking, rooted in zero evidence, based on nothing
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

Calling oppressive political and social practices exhausting in big public ways can be dispiriting rhetoric for fighting against oppression.
How about publicly calling awful systems and oppressive practices "infuriating"instead? Save the "exhausting" for intimates and comrades?

@juliaturner.bsky.social @thehighsign.bsky.social @slate.com I'm excited to listen to Amy Poehler's interview with Kate McKinnon after hearing your endorsement.
Another quasi-celebrity interview with KMcK that precipitated warm and fuzzies for me (so uncool!) was Hillary Clinton's, on her pod.

I’m no great fan of the ACA.

I believe we should guarantee health care as a human right through a single-payer Medicare for All system.

But — at minimum — we cannot allow Republicans to destroy our already-broken system by doubling insurance premiums for 20 million Americans.

Schumer and the Dems are about to teach Trump the lesson that they’ll cave whenever he abuses power to sufficiently hurt people.

Unacceptable. There are 189,000 people in my district who will be paying 50–300% more for the same, and in many cases worse, healthcare.

I won’t do that to the people I represent. I’m a NO on this “deal.”

Okay, Ezra is confirming that he's hearing D senators are actually plotting to cave to Trump and end the shutdown WITHOUT any extension of the ACA, just a promise of a vote later down the line.

Call your senators, friends, NOW, and tell them NO DEAL without ACA funding!

Resistance has a history.

And it mattered profoundly.

Successful or not, it showed backbone and a will to resist—and inspired others to do the same.

It fueled resistance in the North.
When Anthonhy Burns was kidnapped in Boston in 1854 under the auspices of the Fugitive Slave Act, thousands of ordinary white and Black Bostonians responded with outrage like this and stormed the jail in an unsuccessful attempt to free him.
