Democrats asked for ONE THING today to reopen the govt: Keep health insurance subsidies where they are at now for one year. That is IT. Nothing else.

Republicans said no.

So all the lies they tell every day about things Dems are asking for is BS.
Republicans OWN this shutdown.

If you’re a Virginian, you know or are related to or are impacted by DOGE cuts, RIFs, shutdown or forced retirements in some way. Today, Virginians clapped back at 🐂 💩.

Hearing Spanberger speak about public service.
Hearing Sherrill speak about the Statue of Liberty.
I earned a little hope today.

ICYMI: I asked more than a dozen higher ed experts, how dead is the Dept. of Ed?

Some tried to stay optimistic, describing the agency as diminished not dead. Others feared the damage has already been done. But across the board, most say ED is in critical condition.

👇🎯 It's incredible how THE explanation for Why Democrats Lost in 2024 - the one the pundits were certain about (bsky.app/profile/mcop...) a year ago, & which was the nonstop centerpiece of the National Conversation™️ for <3 straight years> - has now been completely cast aside as if it never happened.
I'm also frankly pretty floored that, in the sections of this editorial that deal with why Dems lost in 2024, there is no mention at all of inflation. According to the Times, Dems lost because of a bad favorability rating. But their favs weren't bad until after they lost!

‼️ this is one of the reasons why the Musk shutdown of USAID broke me, like

Congress said 'we're allocating these funds to save lives'

a random asshole with too much money and unresolved bitterness about the end of Apartheid said 'no you're not'

so the funding disappeared??

and people are dying??
There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)
