✨Intro post:
I’m a designer + illustrator. Sometimes my holiday product designs are in mass market stores. (I also have my own shop but don’t usually promote on my personal account.) Interests are children’s lit, reading, and medical science (for sake of one of my kids).
Hi! 👋

Maybe I’m missing something, but I can’t help but wonder that a national strike would have more impact if people actually *knew* about it and had time to plan for it.

Only partly joking, but is this a practice one or a psyop?

"Luchs speaks five languages: English, French, Italian, and some German and Russian. She approached grasping Gen Z parlance like she was learning another language.

...An Instagram commenter wrote: 'She’s so natural with it too like it’s not even cringe.'"
Alison Luchs, who has worked at the National Gallery of Art for 47 years, agreed to learn Gen Z slang and make videos because she wanted to raise interest in the museum’s art.

We could have health care and help people survive and thrive or ... Americans shot and killed in broad daylight by masked officials. 🤔
Another reminder that the largest cuts in Medicaid’s history were made by this Congress in part to fund a tripling of ICE/DHS budget.

I’m not sure if it structurally adds more parking spaces for the ones that are like this, but some parking garages really do seem like they were designed by Escher.

Kidnapping and murder are not things to be observed with quiet, cordial acceptance - and claiming otherwise is a blatant dangerous attempt to normalize atrocities and erode our empathy. Trust your eyes and your outrage. They are your guides.

Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance.

They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along.

They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

My oldest was telling me that a teacher said to use a different door because there could be ice, and that I have no idea if the teacher meant frozen water, armed gunmen, or both… teachers shouldn’t have to be bodyguards and children deserve a different reality.

Next up: Households that endured someone learning the recorder, UNITE!
When schools and weak leaders start banning whistles, I feel like kazoos could accomplish a comparable effect and might even be a little scary for kids. Or it’ll sound like they’re about to be consumed by a horde of bees. I don’t know, choose your fighter, I guess.

I keep wondering if these people understand that their entire legacy will be shame.
After executing Alex Pretti on Saturday, ICE has shifted to primarily targeting bus stops and elementary schools in my community this week. I cannot overstate how much of the ICE activity in my community is just targeting places where little kids are.
Video from this morning shows ICE agents deploying tear gas outside a Minneapolis preschool as parents shout, “This is a preschool! There’s kids here!”

I described my day to someone who lives out of state (whom I strongly suspect voted 3x for someone I didn’t) that we were headed out the door and “fingers crossed we don't make any missteps that keep us from getting someone's name (if someone got abducted if we couldn’t stop it)—

MN friends - My cousin and her husband run a cozy little knitting shop in Maple Grove. They closed today in solidarity with the statewide walkout & they're donating profits on Saturday to a local food bank. They're also collecting food all weekend. If you're nearby, stop in and show them some love!

For all the ways that people have been using the U.S. flag as a snide, distorted symbol of what it should be, lately I’m grateful for the bit of hope I feel when I see the Minnesota state flag. 💙🩵🤍

Would be fun seeing an entire art exhibit of paper snowflakes like this, but what’s making me smile right now is the years of “snowflake” being intended as an insult when we know what happens when they show up TOGETHER. ❄️
This is Minneapolis:

That's not the MN State flag anymore.
A major reason for the change was specifically blatant racist, anti-Indigenous imagery.
It is a specific choice to use this flag.
Minority extremists use the old flag as a dog whistle.
The Vice President is prominently dog whistling.
