I've been sharing the basics of this with everyone ever since I learned about her research.

Why should you push past your comfort zone and not be Minnesota nice to masked agents? Wouldn't that just provoke them to violence?

No, actually; your loud, explicit disapproval could save lives.
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

This is as good a step-by-step concrete approach as any for taking care of yourself and more sustainably living a purpose-driven life when receiving information about new harms and injustices in the world.
If you're trying to keep your heart focused on the work that you're best-placed to do, it is, unfortunately, a great day to use this procedure @kateschapira.bsky.social and I worked on. I'm going to add a few ideas and songs that I find helpful in this process. Thanks to all who contributed ideas!

Maybe don't. There's lots of other content out there that won't leave your re-traumatized.

Just had a mtg cxl'ed bc of 2 UNRELATED s*icide deaths.

This year sucks. External forces increase the stress. If you're having a hard time IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. There are still people who LIGHT UP when they think about you. Talk to your Pastor, therapist, etc.

Life is better with you in it. Trust.

I picked up Alexei Navalny's book, "Patriot," on my birthday. On the back he writes about his (last) birthday in jail, expressing the conviction that some must suffer much now for freedom so that all may suffer less in the future.

I swore out loud in front of my kids when watching this sermon. NOT out of anger: it's just that no polite words could convey the emotional impact her narrative of God's power created inside of me. The feeling was so explosive that release was essential. www.centennialumc.org/media/6mn459...
