Morning peeps! Please check out my thread. I’m crowdfunding to support an important menstrual cup study. Please share widely! 🙏
Hey peeps! It's been 2 weeks since I launched my crowdfunding campaign, and your support and generosity have blown me away. You folks rock! But with 3 research grant rejections this month & 2 weeks left to go I’ve decided to set a new stretch goal & pivot… 1/8

This what my stretch goal is all about. Getting the funding to look at the ability of different microbes to stick to menstrual cups under conditions that mimic the environment of a menstruating vagina. 4/8

It's about menstrual cups and the lack of published studies on their microbiological safety. Let me be clear. I'm NOT saying menstrual cups are unsafe. I think they are awesome - a more affordable and environmentally sustainable alternative to pads & tampons. But research is lacking. 3/8

I want to try raise another $150,000 for a project I’ve been trying to get funded for over a year. Today was another rejection. This isn't surprising. Less than 1% of global healthcare R&D spend goes on women's health conditions that are not cancer. My project falls into that neglected area. 2/8

just a reminder that judging a literal book by its literal cover is basically what a cover is made for, and the common saying used here, is about people and their outward appearance... it's like a metaphor or something.

Seymour exists in the public outrage baiting way he does because he’s allowed to lie and misdirect continuously into an amplifier with Nats support.

Otherwise he’d be just another malign corporate lobbyist journeyman, occasionally getting policy wins, but mostly existing as a backrooms negotiator.

Content creators need a union like SAG-AFTRA. Too many companies want the most for the least amount of money or merchandise for exchange of work. If you are creating a video you are the writer, the actor, the editor, and the director. You should get paid for wearing each of those hats.

This is a very good case in point - if BlueSky wants to moderate heavily, then moderate heavily, but you gotta hit all the offenders, *especially* the powerful ones
this is a far more explicit death threat from people with the actual means to carry it out

like foregoing any real analysis of what ai can and can't do, could our govt at least read anything about the economic risk of investing in AI. it's going to pop and the less our infrastructure leans on it the better.

While we know what this government is like, don't forget the biggest land grab ever on our history was by Helen Clark in 2004.

Just 21 years ago the government, knowing everything they know, knowing disparity, knowing the intergenerational effects of actions made this decision.

Let that sit.

as a writer, you meet two types of hopefuls: people who like to write and people who want to be writers. It's the former who actually succeed – you need to love this, not as a means to an end but for itself entirely.
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.
