You know this world is killing me.

Here's a question I've enjoyed asking on various social media platforms. What are vocabulary words you have learned from songs? For example, I learned the word "raze" from REM's World Leader Pretend.

This is an amazing piece; please read it.
I met Melissa Hortman in October of 2024. She was smart and kind. I heard about her murder in a LA hotel room and it dropped me to my knees. So I went to Minnesota and talked to her kids, parents, and friends. This is not true crime, this is Melissa in real life. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I just had a patient offer me her chair, “because where I’m from, we give up our seats for the elderly.” 😑😂

There's nothing we love more than to see independent bookstores thriving. Indie bookstores are essential community hubs and foster a love of reading that is unmatched, and we're proud to be part of the movement that keeps them in business.

I'm not even going to repost a screengrab of his post about Rob Reiner but man it really needs to be said every single day: Trump truly is the biggest piece of shit in the world, a man of absolutely no good qualities and seemingly limitless bad ones. Support for him is just so damning.

Went to bed early and woke up early and honestly wish I could have slept until spring.

Too much loss this weekend.

Super disappointed to hear a Simple Minds song in a ChatGPT ad. I know everyone’s gotta make a buck, but 😑

This has been making the rounds, and I'll just say that when I went off caffeine in 2021, after 30 years of moderate daily intake, my as-yet-undiagnosed ADHD made itself known. Which was a good thing, in retrospect. I'm back on caffeine now, and won't be weaning off again anytime soon.

I never made it above Rundle C, and I was tired of feeling stupid, so I quit playing Learned League. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(I’ve also never passed the Jeopardy! Anytime Test, because it is degrees harder than the show itself.)
If you want to show you're smart tell people which Learned League rundle you're in

Way down the page at the below link:

“The U.S. public has 60 days to comment on the proposal, the Federal Register notice reads.”

That’s right, it’s not a done deal. Yet.
The Trump administration plans to require all foreign tourists to provide their social media histories from the last five years to enter the country.

Yes, I said TOURISTS — not immigrants. This is insane. It will DECIMATE the U.S. tourism industry.
Foreign tourists could be required to disclose 5 years of social media histories under Trump administration plan
The Customs and Border Protection proposal would apply even to countries that don't require visas to enter.

The ob-gyn clinic I’m interpreting at this afternoon has some reindeer decorations on the check-in desk. It took me a second to realize they are made out of specula. LOL for days.

OK, this is hilarious to me because I started reading "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus" last night.

I’ve been firmly silver for thirty years, but started leaning that way a few years before that.
At some point in a woman’s life, she decides whether she is a good person or a silver person. She must then remain true to her metal family for life. My skintone made it obvious that I’m a gold girl. Unfortunately that is the more expensive option 😵‍💫

The sound of Tide Pods hitting the bottom of the washing machine always reminds me of the scene at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which Indy brushes tarantulas off the back of his doomed assistant with his whip. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.

This is beside the point she is making in this thread, but one thing that drove me bananas when I lived in France was how linked the degree is to the job or job category. You did a literature track in high school but decide you want to study medicine? Non, ce n’est pas possible. 1/
You're missing a couple of steps here.

No degree, no job.

And in France you're supposed to put your photo on the resume.

In France there are lots of ways to weed you out before you're ever hired.

Today I turned down what would have been a third part-time job because it only paid $11/hour. I have been paid more than that (though not by much) in my retail jobs since 2014. And, I weirdly feel almost guilty for saying no! It would have been a fun job, but I’m worth more than that.

I just heard this song, and I laugh *every time* because I always mishear the lyric as "I'm addicted to mayonnaise, but what can I say?" 😂

I will have a couple of days in Vancouver prior to a writing retreat in February, and I’m trying to decide what to do with my time. I may get together with some other retreat-ers, but otherwise, the city is my oyster. Gah! I hope I don’t go into decision brain lock. 😂

In 8th grade science we had to make a dried flower collection, and my teacher wrote, “No. Dandelion” next to whatever other yellow flower I had found. I was so angry! It was NOT a damn dandelion. (Damndelion?)

I think I’ll use this story in my writing as a cute little “fuck you” to that teacher.
In sixth grade I used the word "stolid" in a paper and my teacher marked it as a spelling error, then accused me of cheating when I tried to argue, so I like to put it into each of my books as a cute little fuck you to that lady.

Since I can’t think of anything to say, here’s my 2025 Replay. I don’t really listen to Apple Music all that much, so this probably isn’t representative. (And yet…it very much is.)

Last night @aftynbehn.bsky.social showed us the playbook. Be bold. Be authentic. Run hard. Contest every seat. Young women are the future.

I’m running in KY-6 because I am Kentucky to my core. And I have bold solutions to our problems.

I can replicate the Aftyn playbook and flip KY-6.
