The Department of Justice is not supposed to be a tool for the president to exact retribution on his perceived enemies.

The fact that we have to say that is outrageous.

"Efforts to remove unhoused people will focus on the security perimeters of Olympic venues, according to the report."

For many of the major venues, what's been discussed has been a one-mile radius. For the Figueroa/Expo Park cluster, that would encompass huge sections of downtown and South LA

"When in doubt, draw a distinction."

Not sure where he got it, but in grad school one of my teachers taught me that.

This (long) thread is about the key distinctions I rely on as a critic. There's a Twitter version from 2021. This one builds on that one.

I will post them one at a time. Ready?

I’ve been thinking more about this nonsense and what it means. I don’t think it’s a flex — a performative expression of power and intimidation — like the advertisements for ICE positions. Too obscure and lacking in flair. Instead I think it likely reflects real internal problems.

Courts need to make clear that states can in fact prosecute federal agents who commit crimes; that ICE’s view of the constitution is wrong; and that the federal government cannot ride roughshod over the states
