my first camelia is opening
a more distant shot of my first camelia bud that is beginning to open. the plant is covered in small green buds yet to reveal the pretty pink flower, but this one is nearly fully open. A rain drop is visible hanging below the bud and its is sat amongs dark gloosy green leaves a perfect pink bud of a camelia beginning to uncurl its cluster of petals and say hello. It has some raindrops clinging on to its underside

Snowdrops are also known as ‘Candlemas Bells’, as they bloom around #Candlemas. This Christian celebration of light echoes the older pagan festival of #Imbolc, and is observed on 2nd February to mark the ritual purification of Mary after the birth of Jesus.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay is #walking.

And the bird in question is a Hoopoe outside my kitchen window, one of just two birds I've seen here in 25 years. They're a scarce migrant to Shetland, and as such a quality garden bird. This one hung out with my hens for a few days, to their consternation.
