If there is a silver lining to this Metroid Prime 4:Beyond “controversy,” it's that it's been a very, very long time since I've heard so many people talking and writing about Metroid.
A franchise that has successfully reinvented itself several times, while generally maintaining a level of quality.

Another good perspective on the inclusion of other human characters in a Metroid title. The more footage I see of Myles the more I find him endearing.

Watched that Arlo Prime 4 reaction video and I made it maybe seven minutes into it before shutting it off. Complete melodrama and declaration that this is game is 100 percent Joever. Calm the hell down, my dude.

John nails it here. Sure it’s fine to have some concerns when previewing something like this, but it’s evident that after Prime 3 that this subseries was gonna dip its toes out of the usual confines of what defines Metroid. Plus, Prime 3 rocks.
Imagine writing a preview for Metroid Prime but only based on the intro. It would be a linear game that's constantly telling you what to do.

The vibe I'm getting from the Metroid Prime 4 previews is that the game has a tutorial with lots of dialogue and involves more characters than Prime 1. Fair complaint, but also in line with where the Prime series was when we last left it so kinda what I was expecting.

The Prime series was always meant to be experimental when compared to Sakamoto’s mainline Metroid series. Adding psychic abilities for Samus and quippy side character (that likely isn’t gonna be in your ear *all* the time) is in line with that philosophy that Tanabe and Retro have made before.

I get the complaints about the turbo-nerd who walks Samus through the opening area of Metroid Prime 4, but I don't understand why some previews sound disappointed that Prime 4 isn't re-inventing the series. Dudes, Metroid Prime 3 is old enough to start thinking seriously about its career and family.
