🧵Who is opposing the Trump administration?

I analysed 76 actions of the administration since inauguration and then searched for *meaningful* opposition to each.

I grouped the types of opposition and considered what we can learn from both them & actions where opposition has been lacking 1/24

After 24 Senate Democrats joined all GOP to confirm climate denier Sean Duffy as Transportation Secretary, he illegally called for the shut down of the National Electric Vehicle Charging Program, established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The US government has ordered states to retract their plans to build hundreds of federally funded EV charging stations, according to a memo obtained by WIRED.

Like it or not, this absolutely changes the security and threat prevention model for digital government. Every worst-case scenario conjured by civil society orgs and rights advocates - the things people say will never happen - is unfolding at pace. Relying on lawful benevolence is not enough.
It’s why I call it “a coup data” : the capture/destruction/leakage of federal data flows that function as its core source of power
The whole story is bonkers but the explanation from a Trump official that it’s all good because they only provided the first letters of their last names is 🫠

Keen insights about what’s happening as well as the failure of the DNC gerontocracy to prepare for it.

We are watching a coup performed by dimwits. We have many opportunities to stop them, we just have to take the gloves off like our new DNC chair has said he will be doing. And quickly.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

NEW: Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it.

The complacency is killing me. People should be in the streets.
If you cannot call it what it is when all in a week: a government removes every mention of a group of people, destroys information about them en masse, bans their discussion in schools, restricts their ability to travel and starts seizing and refusing their official identification, when will you?

Feels like time for a “new solidarity” movement that does what @housedemocrats.bsky.social and @senatedemocrats.bsky.social and the DNC seem unwilling or incapable of doing.
I really can’t wrap my head around congressional Democrats’ response to the past 12 days of crises. It reeks of pathetic capitulation. Trump is asserting dictatorial powers of absolute control over the entire government and the reaction is “we don’t swing at every pitch”? An appalling abdication.

The flip side of Trump purging prosecutors and FBI agents he thinks are disloyal to him is that there will only be prosecutors and FBI agents he thinks are loyal to him.

This will impact everyone down the line with increased fire issues and higher municipal and agricultural water costs. But given the location of this water, a lot of the people most immediately impacted are Trump voters.

Chipping away at that base, one dumb, selfish, awful stunt at a time.
For a photo op & a bragging media post, Trump minions at the USACoE have thrown away millions of gals of #water farmers were relying on for later this year. This water will not be captured, will not be useful for cities or farms or firefighting. It is now lost.

It’s amazing to me that nobody seems to be calling out the fact that a $500B U.S. investment in data centers does two things:
1) socializes the cost of the least valuable piece required for AI scaling; and
2) does nothing to improve education/skills of workers who will be displaced by AI

This part. All in the service of “efficiency” until you’re no longer needed, and there is no reason to believe the primary economic beneficiaries are going to share the spoils.
I’m not kidding: those who delegate all their writing, thinking and creative expression to machines are going to wake up one day and discover that they can no longer write or think. You need to make your own art. You need to keep your brain working. You need to stay human.
