I get why this struggled in the 80s but I don’t get why she didn’t have a relaunch in the 2010s fun girl era when you had stuff like Squirrel Girl, Ms Marvel, Patsy Walker, etc all getting good attention. Dakota is a cool lady who solves crimes dressed in a holster and high fashion it’s an easy sell
in which we look back at one of the great missed opportunities of 80s Marvel - a book designed to tap the zeitgeist of an era’s stylish crime entertainment, the brainchild of writer Martha Thomases and the great Tony Salmons … abruptly canceled after a measly five issues. 🤪

in a time when physical media exists primarily as an hyper expensive collector’s market, a lot of ppl only purchase art they already know they like. piracy for many collectors is basically a free trial on art they would not have spent money to try

the thing about piracy is, of course, that the majority of people who are pirating things weren't going to be potential sales. if you have the means to support art, do so! but like... if piracy *stopped*, you wouldn't generate sales equal to pirated copies. you'd just lose a large chunk of audience!
