Officials in Tennessee aren't just banning books, they're now demanding information on who checked out contested (largely LGBTQ+) books, including names, addresses, and "household composition."

A librarian who was given the directive has come forward asking for whistleblower protections.
Tennessee whistleblower says library board chair sought private data as part of state's book purge
A First Amendment expert told The Advocate that there are "huge" legal implications stemming from the situation.

Is there a "no AI training" version of the AGPL?

We chose it because we wanted to share our code as long as people share back OR pay us for a private license. Even if they're just self-hosting they're own version.

Now AI can consume it as training data without having to share anything back.

Ok. Now had a chance to check and, well, at least some docs do appear to be straight up classic redaction fail. And there are some *interesting* bits here.

Please remember, every time you see a newspaper or magazine article denigrating people - people like myself - who choose to avoid infection with SARS-CoV-2, there will always be a tiny, quiet voice in the mind of the author whispering, 'what if they're right'?

We are right.

Banning protest will lead to more protests with significant consequences as the police become agents of authoritarianism.
This is about all protest and all free expression, from here on out. Our establishment knows social discontent will only grow as the climate worsens, the slaughters continue, and the rich extract harder. They're not fixing anything, and they don't want you to be able to resist.

Or weirder- that they think their big contribution as management is sitting on Devs and yelling NOOOOPE NOPE ONLY MY IDEAS ARE GOOD! But secretly scared they're out of idea juice. All anyone wants from those guys is proper scheduling for once

You want ideas? I have hundreds stored up from my career. Well thought out ones, with documentation and concept art.

You want them?

Pay me for them.

What's that? Oh, you don't want to pay me for them.

There is the problem.

Even if you aren't a gamedev, as a player you know you have a tonne of ideas of what you want to play. Great, now take that and magnify it by trained staff who know what is possible and who have dedicated their working lives to the craft.

Yeah. Ideas? Not a fucking problem.

This is exemplified by the universally hated concept of "the ideas guy".

The truth is every gamedev has a sea of idea that could spawn many solid or great games, but the path to getting an idea developed requires FUNDING sources backing that idea.

Ideas are cheap.

Ideas are not a resource that the games industry needs generated. You cannot shoot a nerf gun into a studio and miss someone without a thousand great ideas. It's never been a problem for any of us. Just ask us.

Fuck sake you evil bastards just admit you don't want to pay for staff.

The year is 2035. There are three game studios left. Each one produces a game every 10 years, killing 250+ developers in the process. They all accidentally make the same game because they used genAI in preproduction. They sell 500 million units each, missing quarterly targets. Everyone is laid off.
