Use, and I cannot state this enough, libraries. UK/RoI authors get paid for library borrows. More than you'd think!
I’m just going to block anyone attempting to justify or excuse pirating books. Times are hard, yes, but absolutely NO ONE needs to steal books. Libraries exist. There are umpteen works legitimately in the public domain. You don’t need to take income from authors trying to scrape a living.

This is something that I and more and more people I know who work with public-facing email addresses (think "[email protected]") are having to deal with.
We are NOT ready for this. Massive orgs might be but charities, public services and smaller companies are not ready.

Sometime late in the Bush administration we as a country stopped illuminating rooms with a floodlight placed directly behind a slowly rotating industrial fan and our nation has been floundering ever since.
