I’m not sure how I didn’t catch in the promos that the Hallmark country music movie this year involved time travel.

I do not have it in me to ignore terrible time travel mechanics in a second Christmas movie this season.

#OnThisDay in 1999, when most journalists were cleared out of downtown Seattle during the WTO protests, HistoryLink had the only live feed of the disturbance (one frame per minute) from the webcam in our office window. Learn more about it here: www.historylink.org/File/9203

While folding laundry in the living room, heard Ramona yowling about something in the bedroom.

Upon investigation determined that she wanted someone to lift up the covers for her to burrow under.

These cats.

One of the hopes that got me through 2020 was thinking that we might actually learn something about the importance of public health and the role of government in society.

And here we are.
6 years today the first COVID case was identified in a man in Wuhan marking the beginning of a global pandemic that changed the world. We are way less prepared today to face another pandemic than we were back then. This fact makes me sad.

Sometimes when I finally work up to doing All The Laundry I just want to bag all the clean clothes up and take them to the thrift store—and then just wear the same identical outfits every day for the next 40+ years. (Trying to be optimistic about my time remaining considering our modern dystopia.)

I gave up on dating long ago with very little regret. When I think about it even conceptually, this is pretty much exactly it.
I once mixed up the “rather get a root canal/pap smear” analogy by saying “I’d rather get a Pap smear at the dentist” and tbh, that is exactly how I feel about dating.

Hey, foreigners! To celebrate the anniversary of Henry Kissinger's death, why don't you do the thing he loved best, and arrange for a regime change? Your choice of government!

I’ve started a rewatch of Stargate.

I really do miss when all alien planets looked like British Columbia.

I am always amused by the sheer volume of tasks I can discover that need to be done to avoid hauling my laundry to the basement.

As a manager, it’s depressing to see short term thinking that leads to these layoffs. A huge part of my work in the next year is focused on developing our junior staff tied to succession planning, and while initiatives around “efficiency” shape that planning—our goal is improving our team’s future.
Two hours after presenting a team of AI agents he’d built to some 70,000 PwC employees, Donald King was laid off. “It was actually like I was just feeding myself into the AI meat grinder,” he said.

I'd only receive UBI because giving it to everyone is cheaper than means-testing.

But while it wouldn't make a dramatic material difference to me, it would massively ease my worries about my son and members of my extended family.
Honest question: If everyone got Universal Basic Income, no strings attached, what would YOU do with it?

I have a package that seems to be getting a daily scan at a local distribution center—but rather than it make it on to a USPS truck to my house… it’s just been sitting there getting its daily scan since the 22nd.

Dunno what’s up w that shooting in DC but if you follow these things at all the only sure bet is that the perp’s politics are likely to be at least somewhat incoherent. A lot more of these shootings are “I have no side and I’m furious” than they are “I’m on this side and hate the other side.”

As someone with an abiding love for Canadian sci-fi tv of the 90s and early aughts—hard endorse.
I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen
