A consistent story in US politics has been Republican obedience. Safely ensconced in seats with large GOP majorities they feared Trump unleashing his cult-like primary voters more than they did their electorate.

Also, a Dem just won a Trump +22 Texas district despite a 1:10 funding disadvantage.

On camera, immigration agents are shooting and killing people in broad daylight.

Behind closed doors, ICE is also killing people with chokeholds, medical neglect, inadequate food, and other inhumane conditions. The needless deaths and suffering must end.
Deaths in ICE custody reach 20-year high amid Trump enforcement push
Rights groups say overcrowding and long stays are to blame.

It starts in the states, and it requires two things: proportional representation for legislative bodies, and fusion voting in single-winner races. Eventually rolling back state-run party primaries, too. But PR is the only immediate “have a multi-party system” switch to flip and states can do it.
It's pretty clear most Americans actually want multiparty parliamentary democracy, with the strong parties it incentivizes. It's also quite clear that almost no one, among the public or politicians, wants to engage with what having something approximating that requires:

If you're wondering why the Dem Party just seems inept, I think this is the best explanation.

There is no party. There is a fundraising machine masquerading as a party.

We're being put through this because a good portion of the country were so angry a Black man was elected president, gays could marry, and trans people existed that they decided to elect the worst possible person to destroy the country. The rest were rubes fooled by mis and disinformation.

The biggest obstacle we face as a society in getting people to accept reality about Trump is that it requires people to face reality about themselves and about ourselves as a society.

Gift article, good read
It is not up to the armed forces to put a stop to Trump’s ghastly ideas of war against NATO. The United States is not run by the military, nor should it be. Americans, and their elected representatives, must take this burden away from the armed forces—now.

The Military Is Being Forced to Plan for an Unthinkable Betrayal
Attacking an ally would be a perversion of everything the armed forces have been trained to do.

This is a great thread
9/ In exchange for a norm for severely limiting what it does do with its military, the US gets to live on a planet where most countries operate on the assumption that the US military isn't a direct threat to them.

That has a myraid of benefits far outweighing potential plunder or territorial gain.

Fond memories of that time Mike Johnson was president of a local law school that never opened its doors, in part because it was attached to a Baptist college that was losing its accreditation, and in part because it was always a scam from the start
Mike Johnson -- who is, yes, theoretically a lawyer -- has not had a chance to look at the American Constitution because he's been very busy lately, folks, he just can't see everything, gosh, how is he supposed to know if it's wrong that the president called for the execution of congress members?

People really don't understand what an extraordinary energy revolution China is creating right now. They're installing 1GW of solar a DAY. It's not slowing down either. They just peaked their emissions and we could see them phase out coal by the end of the decade.
In 2024, China installed 1.5x as much new solar as the entire US installed base.

It’s nonetheless important to understand the significance of this messaging in terms of its potential impact on the intended audience.
