there's a versatile Chinese word 油腻 that's hard to translate. the core meaning is oily/greasy, but it can be applied to anything from music, writing, to people. when applied to people, "smarmy" is similar but not exactly the same.

There have got to be a number of great options for Italian Americans to celebrate. And who wouldn't love a holiday revolving around Italian food? Just swap the slave trader for almost anyone else and it would be a success.
