the main clarification I've had to make: of course people are fighting data centers in their communities and are mad about AI slop. what I am saying is that the broad popularity and prevalence of LLMs could prevent this from cohering into a simplistic, broad anti-AI stance, even within the left
hi im also on the left. people can dislike microsoft a whole lot without "opposing microsoft" cohering into something people organize around. I think tons of political positioning will happen around AI because AI is a big part of the economy. I just think it will be more specific than "opposing AI"

this is a bluesky bubble opinion. 800M+ people use chatgpt every week. I hate Facebook and Instagram and I wish they didn’t exist, but 3B and 2B people use them every month, respectively. it’s very hard to picture a mass or even a niche left backlash against them
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills

I've been trying to understand why this isn't generating as much fury as it should, and i think it's because there is a fundamental belief among many americans that the military can pretty much do whatever (which isn't entirely inaccurate.) that said, what the actual fuck.
