The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

Don't cave now or the entire shut down was worthless! I'm a furloughed Federal worker with a type 1 Diabetic child. I would rather see health care subsidies get restored than to reopen the gov't without any gains. I can hold out a little longer without pay but my son needs health care to survive!

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

If Schumer can't whip enough votes to prevent a deal that will price millions of Americans out of healthcare, he needs to resign.
Schumer is voting No.

He can’t stop Fetterman from voting Yes.

A vote in the future is not enough. As a constituent, and a contractor on the verge of furlough, I would still urge you to reconsider capitulating at this juncture. I have every reason to want the government to reopen soon, but more than that, I want people not to lose their access to healthcare

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Trump just got massively booed and flipped off by the crowd at the Commanders game.

Let me be clear: if Chuck Schumer caves tonight, that will be the formal end of his career in Democratic politics.

The new generation coming into leadership has no tolerance for cowards.

Chuck Schumer cannot agree to any deal that does not include, at minimum, a one year extension of the ACA credits.

A pinky promise from John Thune is meaningless.

I honestly don’t get the value of this company. They hoover up energy and water. Their product constantly gets things wrong and, in extreme cases, coaches people into suicide.

And it’s all built on what seems to be malicious and vast intellectual property theft.
