Haven't seen any good headlines about the pipeline mou yet.

Going to say this for the last time, but Mark Carney proudly announcing a road map to give Alberta a pipeline, after nearly a year of saying we need to build more pipelines, is a sign he wants a pipeline.
Is Mark Carney Crazy Like a Fox? Max Fawcett Thinks He Is

This is a fascinating conversation about Thursday's pipeline MOU in which I play a supporting role to @maxfawcett.bsky.social.

Here's the thing about Tarantino: he's undeniable because Pulp Fiction might be the most influential and cool film of the 90s. He's got his super fans who will rave over every film since. I suspect the critical re-examination of his career will not treat most of his movies as masterpieces.

My main takeaway from today is that Mark Carney makes Justin Trudeau look like Otto Von Bismarck.

Carney has been pretty clear that he wants major projects including pipelines built. He doesn't talk about that many different things. If you think he doesnt actually want a pipeline, that's based on trying to project something on to him rather than anything he said and now done.

Something that is easy to forget in all the "Carney is a political genius / Carney is a political naif" argle bargle is that climate policies matter. Environmental regulations matter. Getting rid of them may or may not achieve a political end — but it's guaranteed to have real-world implications.

Sorta funny how often the term "conservative backlash" appears as a trope in media but never liberal or left wing backlash.

Anyway with Carney cutting deals like a right wing crackpot now ks better than never for the soy uprising.

The MOU goes much farther than many people expected, giving Alberta's oil producers literally every item on their list of demands, while getting basically nothing in return. Alberta will negotiate a carbon price, something the province had already agreed to the last time Ottawa gave them a pipeline.

Turns out the only voters who latter live in Alberta and the rest of us are bystanders.

Mark Carney capitalizing on an unprecedented opportunity to change the country by rushing through an agenda that would have been backwards a decade ago is going to make him one of our worst prime ministers.

Incredible that literally no one votes for privatized Healthcare and yet all governments seem to be pursuing it.

Oh, so we're fucked fucked
Carney: "In combination with the Pathways [carbon capture] project ... it will mean Alberta barrels are among the lowest emissions in the world."

Also mentioned: Data centres, nuclear power, removal of net-zero power regulations, emissions cap gone.

Low key insane to exempt beneficiaries of this slush fund from the Act. If someone spends 1 dollar from a grant on a redevelopment, and pinkie swears its for something training related, then poof, they can do whatever the fuck they want on any property they own?

@raaleh.bsky.social nailed it with his theory of THE GAY ECONOMY
I will believe in the end of identity politics when steel and lumber (28,000 jobs and 105,000 jobs respectively) stop getting bailouts, while higher education (310,000 jobs) collapses in front of our eyes because it's full of ivory tower elites

The Nuzzi thing is a good reminder that outside the deep structural issues of energy/subsistence, most of what's happening right now is an old-fashioned crisis of elite legitimacy, which sounds comforting until you realize how some of those have turned out in the past

As a Jew it doesn’t seem that hard to understand that if people are protesting outside a synagogue because they think it’s pro-Israel, that’s antisemitic but if they’re protesting outside a synagogue because it’s hosting an event encouraging people to move to illegal settlements, that’s fair game.
