what the hell, more screenies because it's so cool!

It's been a while since I modeled a non-humanoid anything. Nothing here's final, I'm just trying to get a feel for how the rig'll look before I commit myself to the model and finish it. I'm better at rigging, anyways...

Some screenies of me fighting goblins on horseback with a sword.
November 9, 2025 at 5:34 AM
Swinging swords astride horses should be in every game. It makes no sense biomechanically, but I want it.

I have reins, but no reins I want. Geometry likes to throw a fit, so I'm thinking better ideas instead of bashing my head into the wall for the fourth time.

Making things more dynamic is probably better for me, anyway!

I think I'm getting the hang of it!

New build for Ventury! Here's what happens!

Tonight:

I fight Goblins
Aria finds faith in skeletons
and Tinsel chews up my headphones

Goblins can turn their heads, like the skeleton enemies, but they also have irises. They do a good enough job of tracking the player, I think!

he will never ask you to repeat anything you've ever said.

Goblins can giggle when they hurt Aria, and will also pause in surprise when they hurt one of their own kind.

I added these subtle reactions because of how the game works. I like when games let enemies harm one another, even if it is just accidental.

Highlighting these moments is game juice!

More in thread!
Goblins are basically done, they just need to disappear when they are defeated.

Blocking, losing their posture, knockback after a flurry of attacks, dying, attacking, being parried - the whole nine yards!

This is such an incredible bug, I just have to share it.

Made some progress on the animations for a goblin enemy in my game. I think I want these guys to be more simple than the skeleton enemies I already have, since those guys are harder for people who tested the game before.

A more presentable test build may be produced before the end of November. I can't make any promises now, since I have been busy for much of my time recently, but I want to ascertain the guts of Ventury.

Something that had helped me build out the space was starting with the floor plan of the castle. Making what is essentially a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional space made recreating the castle simpler and time-efficient.

Recreation of the base geometry took five days.

On the topic of prototype levels, say hi to Centuria!
I'll be testing and poking the game's systems in this environment as a means of measuring how well everything's built up. It'll be something of a diagonal slice! 🥴

Moving platforms are a door problem in and of themselves.
Also, prototyping any level takes a lot of time. Make the space navigable and interesting in terms of layout and tangible features before you make it look pretty!

I have acquired a fuzzy friend.

Currently looking into a new prototyping environment for most of the game's mechanics and features. Might take up until mid-November to get done?

Made a few changes to combat to feel a little more responsive and tense.
July 30, 2025 at 4:32 AM
Archery on horseback is somewhat done, needs some extra time in the oven but it works!
July 30, 2025 at 4:32 AM
I made some changes to the horse, and gave some attention to combat again.
