At the Alex Pretti memorial this afternoon, people are unfurling four very large banners.

They read, "How many more will ICE murder? How many more funerals? How many more...how many more?"

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

This whole 🧵but/and it’s 50/50 this person was my mom. No joke.
Today I talked with a 76 year old who'd been standing in the cold for hours guarding her neighbors. I was getting kind of chilly, even in the new winter gear i bought for this trip (and I live in the goddam mountains myself).

She didn't even have a hat on.

“the agent took the child out of the still-running car, led him to the door and directed him to knock on the door asking to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home, essentially using a 5-year-old as bait.”

Agents later took the father and child away in a vehicle and sent them to Texas

You have the people with a specific form of quiet, polite niceness named after them chasing you out of restaurants, confronting you at every turn, demolishing your cars, and staying up all night in sub-freezing weather just to ruin your sleep, and you think there's a possibility you might win?

Take a breath, do something today to prepare, either individually or with your community, and remember that we can win.

Don't forget to say your affirmations:
You might be having a hard day, but at least you're not a pathetic loser no one likes who agreed to ruin lives, murder strangers, and eat shit over and over again on frozen sidewalks, all in return for a paycheck you'll never be able to spend because you get booed out of any business you enter.

What do folks know about how to fund the community in Cedar-Riverside directly?
"I am not scared, and we will not be scared. We know our rights. We’re U.S. citizens and we’re going to continue to show up"

Someone make a movie about these folks ... it'd make a billion dollars

I met two of them this week -- their bravery is inspiring stuff

Opinion: "[T]oo many of our elites never really believed in liberal values like equality, pluralism and the dignity of every person, so when it came time to stand up, they were more than willing to cave to save their fancy lives.

So yeah, it’s on us.

Which is the very thing that gives me hope."
Commentary from Reformer editor J. Patrick Coolican:

This is not a moment for "diplomacy."

It’s actually a moment for confrontation, both loud and quiet. And, for saying: No more. Take the mask off. Honor the Constitution. Better yet, leave.
With a whistle and roar or quiet resistance, now is the time to defy the federal beast, Minnesota • Minnesota Reformer

The amount of organizing happening in a VERY short period of time is truly mind boggling.

I've seen things come together in hours that, in the nonprofit & education spaces, would take weeks or MONTHS of planning and coordination.

So, so proud of the Twin Cities right now.

“With each passing day, networks widen, tactics crystallize, and previously unconnected people find their bravery.”

What can you do to push back? There is an answer within each one of us.
The reports coming out of Minnesota of the brutality of ICE terror are harrowing. What's clear to me, however, is that the people are rising up to resist this violence head on. Resistance is everywhere. We may be on our own, but we are not alone.

"Every time a whistle blows, they don’t win."
Blessed are the whistle blowers
Resistance to the ongoing brutality is everywhere. One need only step outside to find it.
