Boy saves family with 2.5-mile swim in shark-infested waters MANA SHEPHERD/ASAP, ALA James Salmon Perth A 13-year-old boy who swam for four hours through shark-infested Western Australia's waters to save his mother and two siblings after they were swept out to sea has been described as "superhuman" by rescue services. Austin Appelbee swam 25 miles to shore to raise the alarm after getting into difficulties with his mother, Joanne, 47, brother Beau, 12, and sister Grace, 8, police said. He then ran 1.2 miles to find help. Paul Bresland, Naturaliste Volunteer Marine Rescue commander, said that Austin's efforts were "superhuman". The family were on holiday last week Quindalup near Dunsborough. coastal town about 150 miles south of Perth, where they live. Making the most of what appeared to be calm conditions, they paddled out into Geographe Bay 3. Family rescued 9 miles from shore Indian Ocean 1. Austin swims 2.5 miles to shore Geographe Bay 2. Trump is loathed in Britain, yet Reform are ahead in the polls. There can be no clearer proof of a radical disconnect in the knowledge & understanding of the public. Not to be reductive but, above all else, this is the media's doing. People in the UK need to be made to see that Reform is MAGA-UK.

Quite irritated by this Love Actually description about UK-US relations. It is not about having a tantrum in public then getting twatted for it. It's about taking concrete action to reduce UK dependency on a country which no longer respects us or shares our values.

The EU needs Britain's arms industry. And Britain needs the EU economic and security blanket. The UK's armed forces are small and impoverished, with their chiefs saying they face a £28bn funding shortfall. According to a recent report by the Centre for Economic Policy: "By 2025, we estimate that UK GDP per capita was 6-8 per cent lower than it would have been without Brexit. Investment was 12-18 per cent lower, employment 3-4 per cent lower, and productivity 3- 4 per cent lower." Other estimates put Britain's losses at lower levels, but there can be no doubt that Brexit has been a strategic economic failure. "Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. If Greenland's security is at risk, we can address this inside Nato," she added. The EU needs help from the UK to do that. Britain has much to give the EU: its armed forces and military industries would accelerate and improve the bloc's security. Trump's attacks on the very existence of Nato, his contempt for Europe in general, and his continuing support for Putin's land grabs mean that the UK could negotiate better terms for re-entering the EU now than it would have done before the US president tore up international law and turned on the US's oldest friends. The Greenland crisis is Britain's best opportunity.

The Liberal Democrat leader suggested failing to bring down A&E waits would allow for "disillusionment" to be exploited as he set out his party's plans to give patients a legal right to be seen within 12 hours. Speaking in London's Chartered Accountants' Hall, Davey attacked Labour and the Tories for their record on the NHS. "If we don't show we can change things, if we can't fix this crisis, that's when the populists and the extremists will take advantage," he said. "Not because they can fix it, of course they can't. They're not even interested in fixing it. "But because populists feed off disillusionment, they thrive when people simply don't believe that any government or any party can really make their lives better." He singled out the Reform UK leader Nigel Farage (inset), who he claimed "doesn't care about the NHS" and wants to "privatise" the service by replacing it with "an American-style insurance system" Under the proposals, £1.5bn would go towards making 6,000 beds available for care by the end of the year, in an effort to end what Davey called a "deadly corridor crisis" Ministers would have a "statutory" duty to limit the time spent waiting to be admitted in A&E to 12 hours or less, the party added. The party said their plan would be funded by scrapping the Government's pharmaceuticals deal with the US, which could result in the NHS paying billions more for drugs. Davey told Donald Trump to "bring it on" as he faced questions from journalists about the prospect of retaliation if the UK ripped up its trade arrangements with the US.
