WHISTLE AND I WILL COME HOME is a WIP visual novel i'm working on with my husband, @pepperbloom.bsky.social

"Oysna is a 'winnower,' tasked with coaxing the reluctant dead from their bodies. He meets Ifris, a young barmaid, whose guardian has recently died..."

Home Alone makes changes to the Die Hard formula that render it hard for me to enjoy. The McClain character should feel overawed. And in theory having Kevin be a child versus adults achieves that. But the thing is: Kevin is a god. It's not just Tom & Jerry. This is some random punks versus Anansi.

After "film trilogy that dropped a critical plot point exclusively via timed Fortnite event" and "video game series whose story only makes sense if you're aware of the events of a canon pachinko machine", I feel like there are whole frontiers of user-hostile narrative design waiting to be explored.

I never planned to work in games! I was trying to get into museums and archaeological fieldwork with a degree in Classics & English, but that goal collapsed with the pandemic, so I hunkered down and kept making games until people started offering me work and I realized I might actually be employable

everyone remembers what happened to Isabel Fall.
I think we lost some work because authors were afraid to show their weirdnesses, rough edges, to ask uncomfortable questions.
We can debate all day about who got cancelled and whether or not they deserved it, but one thing I have noticed is that a lot of queer YA written from ~2019-2022 has a kind of sterile after-school-special vibe where you can just tell they sanitized the fuck out of it to appease the Twitter hivemind

malort is chicago ayahuasca. it is to be enjoyed for emphasis, with reverence. i've seen many a compatriot scoff at its slyness; by the end of the night they had spilled their guts in every way possible.

it's simply not meant to be done with this frequency. this will turn you into the toxic avenger
"Malort advent calendar" is already such an unhinged concept but every little window just having Malort in it really pushes it over the edge into something transcendently funny
