The timing of the Disney YTTV fight makes Disney look even worse. They just got finished being shamed into keeping Kimmel, now they’re demanding more money while SNAP is dead and Gov employees/contractors are suffering? Sports or a Disney movie might have made a bad night better for them. Now what?

Few people outside North Carolina have heard of Paul Newby, the chief justice of the state’s Supreme Court.

But Newby has had a huge impact on America and his state. He’s done this with the goal of delivering what he’s called “biblical justice, equal justice, for all.”

Is it clear now that Trump has NO intent to leave? He sees the White House as his personal palace!
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

Please let this be true…
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

Over the last few terms SCOTUS has told us that it’s unfair to consider race for good things, like jobs and college admissions, but perfectly ok to consider race when it comes to awful things, like police stops and voter suppression.

John Roberts wonders why SCOTUS doesn’t poll well right now…

A thread containing snark, sub-skeeting and a short history lesson on Singapore.
two thing that annoys me about Lee Kuan Yew worship is that nobody who does it seems to care about *modern* singaporean politicians and American right-wingers who do it would never accept LKY's policies of, e.g., massive public housing projects in a country that makes posting racism illegal

Presumably he wasn’t looking for virgins to sacrifice them to Cthulhu; GMU is a conservative-leaning college and they would never worship non-Abrahamic Gods. What then, is the reason this middle-aged man was scouring the streets for virgins? Any guesses?
Wait, Tyler Cowen has been writing about how to find virgins since 2009 while he was a professor at George Mason University

What the hell is going on here anymore? Can we just declare a moratorium on everybody doing weird stuff for a few days?

This makes sense. The reaction to AOC getting elected was similar. She did literally do the impossible and lift herself up by her “bootstraps” but Conservatives belittle her as “just a bartender” when they talk about her.
You can tell a lot about a society by its folk devils so it's interesting that ours seem to be migrants, trans folks and students: very different groups but the common denominator seems to be... self-improvement? You can kinda see why they would elicit resentment in an aging, sclerotic society...

This needs the ‘“Ether” beat behind it
Trump and his billionaire donors might be able to determine Adams and Cuomo’s actions. But they won't decide this election.

In just over 5 weeks, we'll turn the page on the politics of big money and small ideas — and deliver a government every New Yorker can be proud of.

Even if you’re not a lefty, this is dangerous. They’ll apply the “leftist” label to anyone who stands in their way.
In a Hitleresque speech, JD Vance says there can be no unity with the left and vows to use the government to dismantle non-profit NGOs and liberal civil society who he says promote violence and terrorism.

I wish Charlie Kirk had not been shot. No one deserves to be murdered. At the same time, we cannot ignore that he died as he lived - he said that a “few gun deaths” on a regular basis was “worth it” for the existence of the 2nd Amendment.

He has now added his name to the 2nd Amendment’s ledger.

To spell some shit out unambiguously: fascism requires domestic abuse to propagate itself. Demands it. There is no way to humanely teach your children that might makes right. There is no way to gently love a spouse you think is your genetic intellectual inferior.

These are inextricably linked.
